103 Stage II kit?
« on: November 13, 2009, 04:07:04 PM »

Just got my 2010 streetglide back from dealer and was a little disappointed with this kit. 95 ft lbs of torque and 78 hp at 5100 RPM. I'm running a thunderheader 2 into 1 on it, thought I would at least be in the mid 80's hp, does this sound right or off a bit? Thanks.

That's almost right on what the 2010 Screamin' Eagle Parts Catalog says that kit should produce (see attachment).

Depending on your weather (altitude, etc) I think you should get a few more points than that.
My 103 is a Stage one, and matches your numbers! (I'm at sea level)

I would think with your cams, you could see better numbers. How does the bike feel going down the road?

OK apples to apples?? this is a stock head 103" and the CVO 103 is a little differant animal if that is what you have Hogmike?
You are on the way to good power. So how did the dealer tune this? That pipe is very out of spec compared to the factory cat headpipe and duals. A factory stage II download will not cut it. Plus the 2010 bikes are the new lambda system and I am not sure how many tuners are really familiar with this setup assuming then that you are using a TTS, or SEST as a tuning device.
A proper tune will help you perhaps a lot. Beyond that mild headwork and a cam change then a retune would get you over 100/100 and with a very respectable torque curve. BTW the TH will need a little baffle tweak but any good tuner knows how to do that and all that will do is get rid of the torque dip they show right in prime territory about 2,200 - 3,000

Actually, a 23% increase in max torque and 27% increase in max HP isn't half bad for a $900 street legal kit.  Did your dealer just do the street legal download, or did they do a full dyno tune with a SEST or other tuning device?  If you just did the download,  those numbers are almost dead on with what H-D claims.

The SE chart for power on this kit is based on cat converters and a factory map burn. My 09 stage II 103 (255 cams) has only been altered with Fulsac cores and a TTS tuner. So far I have outrun two different 110 CVO bikes with my SG. I think all you need is a good tuner...

That could be about right ... My 09' has (78.13hp & 93.41ft/lbs) with a nice wide tq curve. The only mods so far are the V&H Pro HO 2-1, SE Stage 1 A/C, and the TTS Tuner on the 96" motor.
Did they change the cams?
Have you had it tuned?

I'm thinking he started with a stock 96" bike
Mine is a stock 2010 103.
Our bikes started out identical, except I have the bigger bore and ACR's....otherwise, heads are the same, cams the same, etc.
NOW he has the 103 with some nicer cams.
I would think his numbers would be better than mine, right? Everything else being equal.

Thanks, this is helpful. Yeah I started with a stock 96ci and the kit included the sert and a full dyno thats why i'm a little suspicious. When you say "BTW the TH will need a little baffle tweak but any good tuner knows how to do that and all that will do is get rid of the torque dip they show right in prime territory about 2,200 - 3,000" do you have any more specifics? I will scan my printout of the dyno run and post it soon. My streetlegal 110 softail "B" motor had 91hp and it appears both of the kits used the same 255 cams. Softail also had the thunderheader, thats why i thought I would be closer to the mid 80's hp wise.

My buddy Dewey has an 09 FXD with the only changes being an Andrews 55 cam and Cycle shck slip-ons 103" flatops, heads milled and 1.9 intake and new stock sized exhaust valve just blending under the intake valve and throat opened nothing more done to the heads and 10.2/1 compression. Tuned with a TFI no redline or timing mods.
104 hp. and 109 tq. SAE
Sometimes less is more!

I think we are being fed pablum by the dealers and settling. I know the new bikes are lower than before the 6 speed came in (06 Dyna 07 BT) but really if you are going to spend the money on a top end why not just do it right first and be sure the tuning plan is solid before even touching a stock 2010.

Motoman,

Comparing Dynosheets is only so good, you should take your bike to a dyno that someone else has used that has higher numbers than you with the same kit and then you will have a true comparision on how good or bad your numbers are give or take a little depending on the day and weather.  Ideally you would like to dyno one bike then the other.

Your dealer may have a very conservative dyno, You may go to a 2nd dyno and get better numbers, yet the bike still runs the same as it did off the first dyno.   While a dynosheet is a good tool, a person should not use 1 run on a single dyno as the comparison to whether or not you hit the nail on the head or are lacking.

Unless you compare apples to apples on the same day you are just gonna drive yourself nuts over a dyno sheet.

Yeah your right in terms of chasing numbers on the dyno... I knew that the streetlegal kit wasnt the power I was looking for but it was warrantied and since this bike is going to get a chit load of miles on it I thought i'd play it safe. I was planning to have DM do my 103 but with the number of new bike failures we're seeing lately I thought i'd play it safe.

I may wait until spring and still have the heads done, swap pistons and cams and hope for the best;-)

I have an 09 ultra classic Pc-5 went for the 103 kit with 255 cams I get 108 tq/ with 79.2 hp  and 30 miles to the gallon to boot. Can anyone chime in on the mpg they are getting
