It's really Chip's fault Bob.  They used his bike to help prototype the new hitch.   8)

Not sure if I should have started a new thread for this, but here goes anyways...

A  couple of weeks ago I put a new set of Bitubos on my bike before buying a Bushtec hitch. When I talked to Dan about how to mount the shocks he specifically stated that the reservoir should go towards the front of the bike. I put them on that way and test fit the saddlebag -only about 1/8 inch clearance!! So I turned the shock around and rechecked. Still only about 1/8 inch clearance. With the reservoirs to the rear of the bike it looked to me like the shocks might come closer to contacting the saddlebag during suspension compression, so I went with Dan's recommendation -reservoirs to the front.

I took some pictures behind the saddlebag to show the small amount of clearance, but the back of the saddlebag is so shiny you can't tell what's going on back there. I could post the picture anyway if anyone is interested, but all you can see is shadows and reflections.  :-\

This weekend I started installing a new Bushtec hitch. I didn't understand the instructions about the number of bolts to use at the top of the side struts, so I found this thread. Luckily it shows some pictures using only two bolts on the tops of the struts -thanks Boatman and SBB!  8)

Looks like bitubos might not fit or gonna be real close to this hitch. If anyone has both bushtec hitch and bitubos please post pictures.thnaks jdo

JDO,
Here's a picture of the Bitubos with the hitch struts installed. Per my previous post, using Dan's installation directions, it looks like everything will work OK for clearance.

Also in the photo you can see the pigtail just hanging down there. Does anyone have any good ideas for how to stow the late style Bushtec pigtail when it's not in use? On my 07 FLHRSE3 I have a smaller, older style Bushtec plug that I can hold up out of the way with a loosely looped zip tie. Can't do that with the new larger connector. Ideas or photos, anyone?

Thanks, BikerBoy  8)

From where the plug is in your picture, just fold it up nicely (without a sharp bend) and the wiring and plug will fit nicely inside the saddlebag filler panel.  You don't even have to fasten it, it will just stay inside the saddlebag filler.  Mine is on the other side but should fit just the same.

That bike is way too clean!    :cherry:

Boatman,
Thanks for the reply. I use the folding trick on my SERK but with the aforementioned zip tie to ensure it stays put. I was thinking about the approach you're using, but wasn't sure it wouldn't rub on the paint somewhere. Guess I'll have to take another look at that approach.

 There is actually a pretty good layer of road dirt on the bike that doesn't show up in the picture... Since it hasn't been raining too much on my rides lately, the bike actually stays pretty clean!  8)
