Not sure if there were any changes between old SERGs and new ones, but there's a famous TLR tutorial, complete with pics, starting here: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=42794.msg651798#msg651798

After all the screws are out got to tug up and then forward in quick succession.

Just an FYI, if you're experience is like mine this one be the first of those inserts you lose.  I never take the windshield off since finding the right height shield for my use.  But before that lost a few.  Leave the windshield on the fairing for fairing removal (no need to separate the two).

Harley sell those inserts for $76,242.17 (each).  But you can get them at Ace Hardware or Lowes or Home Depot for next to nothing.

With a little effort, you should be able to find a 20% dealer sale....  I've never paid more than $60,993.74 (each)....  just saying.... ???

Looked all over for the well nuts at Lowe's , Sears, and some other places without any luck. Had to go to HD for them. It was $9.56 for 3 well nuts & the rubber washers..

Getting the darn thing off is the easy part(believe it or not) getting it back on is a bitch.  Any tips for how to locate the 2 clips that the fairing hangs on when you can't see them during the installation?

click out the brezel and the headlight unit then it is much easier , you can hold and feel it with your fingers where the hang-in points are . A 30 second job when you did it often enough .  :2vrolijk_21:

Not a big deal after the first time.  Just have to learn the feel.  Really can feel when its on top of the cleats it must set in.  Then you just have to be brave enough to push back a little harder.

Seems odd.  I've picked wellnuts up at the local Lowes for different purposes for years.  In their specialty hardware trays.  The relatively new Ace Hardware is even closer to me and has a better selection.  So more often patronize them now.  In fact noticed I didn't have any and picked up a half dozen spares at Ace Hardware just last week.

Only thing I do remember at the hardware store is their common sizes are all just a bit longer or just a bit shorter wellnut than the HD part.  Just a bit shorter works just fine.  The bulge in the wellnut still pulls up just like it's supposed to.  The extra length of its tail doesn't mean a thing.

Turn signal brackets on the newer RGs; yes.  On the classic RG's no.  Different signal mounting.
