Thanksgiving day 2009 ride with CAP.....
« on: November 26, 2009, 05:32:08 PM »

CAP moved from Austin, Texas to Nor Cal recently.  After making a couple of attempts at connecting with the Nor Cal group (not sure how we all missed his thread), he finally sent me a PM yesterday.  I responded immediatly inviting him to join Terrie and I for a little ride up in the hills today.

It was our pleasure to show you some of the great roads that we have right here in our back yard.  Weather couldn't have been better for this time of year and it was a great way to spend our Thanksgiving day.  Thank you for coming along and sharing it with us.  Chuck, it was a pleasure meeting you.  We look forward to meeting your wife, Johnnie Kay, when she gets out here and to riding with you two.

We hooked up with Chuck at Starbucks in Rocklin....

We rode up through Lincoln and the back way up into Auburn.  Stopped to take a little break there before we got back on the road.

We headed south on Hwy. 49.  Stopped at the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River.....below the Auburn-Forest Hill bridge (highest in Calif. and 3rd highest in the US).  http://www.foothill.net/~andreaj/Bridge.htm

Shared a little of the history of the California Gold rush and how it all happened.....then we rode on to Coloma, where Marshall first discovered the gold at Sutter's Mill, that started it all.

We stopped in Georgetown.  Probably most notably known to 4 wheelers as the beginning of the Rubicon Trail.  A four wheel drive trail about 80-100 miles long that ends in Lake Tahoe.

Less notably known world wide, but notably known in the region....the Georgetown Hotel and Saloon.  It was a stage stop back in the 1800s and the gold rush era.  It's fame came from the cow bell hanging from a wire over the bar in the saloon.  The other end of the wire is attached to the bed springs in the honeymoon suite and rumor has it that they used to bet how long the bell would ring, down in the bar. ;D  It aso claims to be the last town in Calif. that you can legally park in the middle of the street.

Here we are in Coloma.  Another rest stop and chatted with some of the other visitors.  As can be seen in this photo.....fall colors are in full bloom in Nor Cal.

We also met some of their pets.  This dog is probably the biggest dog I've ever seen.  He said it's a rare breed known as "Giant Alaskan Husky".  The dog looked to be 200 lbs. +, however, he said the dog weighs 176 lbs. the rest is just hair.  But look at the feet on this dog.....I think they're at least a size 10. ;D    Dog's name is Woody.

The black dog, Spot....looks normal size in this photo but is also a very large dog.....a Standard Poodle that is trained in English and German.  Just very odd to see two such large dogs, different breeds.

And here's where we found Molly on our return home.  All curled up on the bed....

Fired00d... you are absolutely right, JC and Terri were the perfect hosts and a great way to get my Nor Cal riding started... such a treat!!  And yes, my move here means I'm no longer working for Joel full time but have an equally exciting assignment which brought me here... I've assumed the role of VP of Programming for KLOVE & Air1 radio networks...  such a great place (as was Lakewood) but the motorcycle terrain is a little better than Houston :))

Thanks again TC & Terri!
