As I mentioned earlier, I planned to install a TMax w/ autotune & wide band O2 sensors, along with Rush slipons and 1.75 baffles.
The HD guys in Annpolis finished the job along with detailing the bike last Saturday (Dropped the bike off at 1100, and they were done at 4:00 PM) Because of the salt still on the highways from our latest storm, decided to leave the bike at the dealers for now. I did stop by tonight to talk to the tech that did the mods, and listen to the new pipes.
Very satisfied with the Rush sound.., maybe a little too loud, but that was due to being inside the service bay. I'm sure they'll be great outside. Here are some questions and comments from our conversation.
I asked the warranty guy about comments on various forums indicating that the install of TMax would impact the warranty. His response..., the TMax install, completed by the dealer, has no impact on any warranty claims, except the TMax must be covered on it's own warranty. I know some other threads have said the complete opposite, but this dealer is an authorized TMax dealer, and he said there was no way they would install the TMax on an HD bike if it impacted the warranty. Bottom line, the dealer makes the warranty decision, so I'm satisfied with their position.
I asked if after the TMax install, should the bike by dyno'd. His response.., no. The autotune feature is there to adjust the baseline map offsets, based on how I drive the bike. The Dyno would only give me an HP chart. Also he advise his customers not to Dyno a new bike. The process is tough on the engine and exceeds break in recommendations.
Next question, now that the TMax is installed, what do I do. The answer.., ride the bike and when I bring it in for the 1000, have them replace the base map with the new "learned" map offsets points. As the autotune learns and adjust the baseline map to my ridding style, the + or - offsets over the initial map, are updated to the base map and produce a new modified map. I can also monitor the base and offsets using the software and my laptop.
I have been spending a lot of time going over the videos and 200 page instruction manual to get a better idea of how this product works and the info I can view, but for now I'll leave the "tweaking" to the pros at the shop.
BTW.., more snow for tonight... This is what I get for buying a bike in November.
More later
