RICOR vs Traxxion Front End Mod??
« on: December 03, 2009, 02:06:08 PM »

I need to get some feedback on who has gone with Ricor inserts vs the AK-20 Traxxion mod to the front end on a SEUC. 08 to be specific. I know there is a cost differance but I need to know the end results on the highway.

I can't speak for the Traxxion units, but I have the Ricor valves in my bike. They really made a difference, handles and rides 100% better than before. I assume that the Traxxion is a great unit, people rave about the difference all the time, but like you said a lot more money. The questions is is it $700-$800 better? I guess only the owner can make that call, I'm very happy with my front end now that I have the Ricor valves in.

Craig, What is the service life of the fluid in the forks now that you have installed the Imulators? I believe Brian at Ricor said to change fluid to Amsoil 15w with the imulators. My concern being that I am in the desert southwest and our temps get way up there that the 15w oil wont last 50,000 miles???

I personally won't run any fork oil, whether you are using stock HD, Traxxion, or Ricor, more than 20,000 miles, give or take a few thousand miles. When I take the front wheel off for a new tire I take the forks and clean them and put in fresh fork oil with new seals and bushings. Fork oil gets dirty and can plug up valves & other internal components. The oil seals can only do so much to keep dirt out. It's reasonable to go 25,000 miles but you're really pushing it with 50,000 miles, in my opinion. I also change my engine oil every 2,500 miles when practical. Some people prefer 5,000 miles.

I'm with you on the new front tire/fork service timing

Yea, it's 5w, kinda freaked me out, didn't think it was heavy enough, but works well. It syn, so should be more stable, but I'd still do normal interval changes.

In my 08 service manual for the SEUC it states to service the front forks at 50,000 miles. I have just shy of 41,000 and I'm just starting to feel that the front end needs serviced. I have decided to keep the bike strickly HD and am not going to use the Ricor Imulators. I am going with a complete refurb of forks and re-service with SE Heavy Duty Oil. It made it 41,000 with standard oil so the SE HD Oil should go a long way here in the Desert. Hopefully I won't regret it!! :nixweiss:

I waited too long (64Kmiles) and the used goop that came out stunk it was so nasty.  Was going with the Ricor's but they sent me the wrong size (too small) so put the SE Heavy back in and it's much better.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder

I think JDOFLHRIDER still has two sets of the 41mm, that fit the touring front end.

Thanks Craig.  That's what I ordered and that's what they say was shipped, but it is really the next size up.....way bigger than my tubes.  Hopefully they'll swap 'em out w/o any charge.  I've already 'eaten' the labor for one tear-down.  Tech at the HD Shop said the MoCo does the same thing...puts the wrong parts in the correctly labeled shipment.  Human error, I guess.   :( aaaaargh.  spyder

For the money, it's a great improvement! Got mine in last fall didn't get to ride it much 170 miles total, but really noticed the difference. Can't wait for this dam ice to melt, if I could get out of my street I could ride the main roads, just the small side streets that are still ices up and melting slowly!!
