While driving north of town we passed an old woman pushing a shopping cart down the shoulder of the road. I commented to Abby "Now there is a true bag lady". Another quarter mile and we turned into the Vet's office to purchase food for my crippled kitty. Then she was there, pushing the shopping cart and trying to enter the office. Abby said, go help her, she wants in. To my suprise in the cart was her cat carrier and her kitty. She had walked a long distance just to help her kitty. She was very poor, ragged clothes, over weight, no teeth, hair a mess and a heart of gold. Her appearance and her devotion to her animal did not go unnoticed. I saw another customer as she was leaving take her hand and close it on a $20 dollar bill. She was discrete but I saw and appreciated what she did. So, today, two total strangers reminded me of what Christmas is really about. Abby and I slipped the clerk a note telling her to put part of her bill on our charge account as well. Christmas is about giving. Be safe, be well and above all be happy.
