Seat Recommendations
« on: January 05, 2006, 09:40:19 PM »

Just got back on after a long absence and would appreciate some feedback on either the Mustang or Corbin replacement seats. I didn't buy the Mustang yet because I really like the feel and look of leather which the Corbin has.
The Corbin Sport Touring seat has a specific design for our bikes and appears to have a real killer look/design. My concern is the price and before I spend the $$$ would like to hear from anyone who has experience with this seat or the Mustang. My motivation for change is strictly for comfort and quality. I like to put on the miles when I ride and the stock seat dosen't cut it for me. [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Awhile back,  I would have been the last person to advocate a Corbin, every time I sat on one they felt like sittin on buckboard. BUT, my used 03 SERK came with one and remembering how the stock seat squatted out on a full days ride, I took a chance and left it on during my ride from Dago to Daytona for Biketoberfest. To cut to the chase, I am so sold on the Corbin I do not even put the Badlander seat I have on my SERK when the bike is stripped down for around town. Me and my Corbin are partners now and the only thing between us is my jeans. I rode from Van Horn Texas to San Diego in one day and it wasn't my butt that was tired.

I've had my Corbin for about 6000 miles , at first it was very uncomfortable , but I love it now. I've heard nothing but good about mustangs too. Have a few friends who have them and love them

I have the Mustang, wife likes it, we've put on a few 900+ mile days, I think it looks good on the bike. A friend though has a saddleman and it seems more comfortable but maybe it's too soft after a few hundred miles but it sure felt nice sittin on it.

Mustang
no break in comfortable for both riders on day one
less expense than Corbin
some say (Mustang folks)vinyl holds up better than leather

Corbin
leather seat and superior styling
if you can get past the break-in just as comfortable as Mustang

If looks are what your after and your willing to break-in the seat, go with the Corbin.  I own or have owned 3 Mustang seats.  Our butts demand comfort from mile 1 and I don't find the styling offensive.    Check your final riding position on each seat as some bring you forward and a little higher.  Amazing what an inch here or there will do to rider comfort.

Bottom line (no pun) each brand is well made

I just put a Corbin solo on my SEEG, I only have one short 200 mile ride on it so far. When I got the $800 seat and put it on, I sat down on it and I felt like I had just thrown away the money. It felt like sitting on a concrete block. I talked to a couple of friends and everyone of them said there is not a better choice, just give it time to break in. It seems to take a couple of 1,000 miles on it before I will feel the benefit of the dollars spent. I could see the benefit the minute I opened the box. The leather looks much better than some of the other brands out there.
The only problem I have is it is 30 degrees and snowing right now, so it will be awhile before I can get the couple of 1,000 mile break in done. Just my 2 cents.

Have been a long time Corbin sitter.  Never had a Mustang so can't offer a comparison.  I really like the Corbins.  Will offer this however.  My two prior Corbin seats were both for Road Kings.  Those would fit on our bikes and they look ok up around the nose of the seat doing so.  The SEEG specific seat is shaped different around it's nose and molds around the dash and tail of the tank differently.  I'm honestly not sure which one "looks" better.

If I had to buy one again though I'd buy the Road King seat.  I never had any problem with them.  The SEEG seat's bucket is molded a little bit differently though.  I personally had a couple of pressure points with it.  Eventually sent it back in to Corbin for their free re-work/adjustment and I think it's fine now.  Haven't ridden on it enough since it's return to know what a 600-700 day will be like.  But it seems better.  It's just that I know that, at least for my butt, the Road King seat was just about perfect right out of the box.

The MoCo makes a little filler pad for when you use an RK seat on a Glide. check out the thread on 06 SEUC's You can see the piece I'm talking about in the photos of the cool custom seat on the georgeous 06 SEUC with the ugly hump removed. Thanks to this thread, I put my stock seat back out of curiosity. Had to go home and change back to the Corbin within 10 miles. uuuugggghhhh   Nothin like a Corbin once you break em in.
