I thought the question was outlined sufficiently - does one have a stock engine (no mods to ENGINE) and a stock exhaust system (no mods to EXHAUST).  The Q has nothing to do with heated grips, passenger boards, seat, paint, fender tips, windshield, etc. etc.

BTW, after 700 miles, mine went NON-stock..can't really say it runs that much cooler, but it sure sounds better, IMO.  Lost 5-7 mpg but gained 10% in hp and torque.

I once thought that a "CVO" had the best chance of staying stock, but that was when I was young and stupid.

It is the same group of buyers that have the most resources to change them, and they will.

I have never seen a stock bike that was over 6 months old.

Come on over and see my stock UCSE.  Staying just the way she is.  Could be I'm lazy, cheap, or just tired of treading water into the bottomless pit of modifications............  I think it's the bottomless pit thing, I've done all that in the past and in the end, it was still just another bike to me.

Yep. I'm in the same place. Unlike most Harley owners I don't care about more rumble, noise or performance. I made a bunch of mods to my last bike and got all that. Can't say I was all that excited with the result. So, I believe my '09 UCSE will stay mostly stock...except for the set of XiED's I ordered!  :P

To not modify the bike is to not experience Harley ownership. The communing of making the unit your own is a significant part of the ownership experience. It borders on Theology.

We buy bikes repo'ed from Harley Finance at the dealer auctions and when we get a stock unit they usually have under 1,000 miles many under 500. We once bought an Ultra 90 days after it had been sold.

The point being that these people never " :2vrolijk_21: is more than a slogan

Suffice to say my bike nor any I have ever owned (Harley or other) is not stock? Wouldn't even consider it! :coolblue:

09 Springer - bought Aug 22, 2009 completly stock. I put almost 500 miles on it before the weather turned crappy here.

I got SERT for Xmas and looking to buy exhaust. I only waited until my 500 miles are on it to follow the break in period.......

I thought the title of this post was "who has kept their engine/exhaust stock", not who has made what upgrades.  We know most of us "upgrade" our machines either before we pick them up or shortly thereafter, so I think most of us are missing the point of this post.  Just my $.02...

By leaving mine stock, it is unique.  Don't feel like I'm missing out on anything, I've done all that over the past 23 years of Harleys....  but, NEVER say NEVER so I am correcting myself on what I said earlier........... I am toying with the thought of getting a new FXSTC to play with.

Just wondering...how many of you have kept your power plant stock...and for how long?

My '09 power plant was "stock" for about 3 months, TTS was added.
My '10...............................................2 weeks,  TTS added.

Power plant is otherwise stock.
I hope this answers the question correctly??

the only engine upgrades i ever make are to enhance durability

all my experiences with hot rodding have ended with holes in block, case, wallet.

once helped a high school buddy work on his nearly new firebird - had a blower off a 6v71 and two holley 650 double pumpers

fast - broke the crank case about every other month - one month to fix, one month to break - till he got tired of it.

besides - the guys loved it, but the girls were not impressed so what was the point?

the girls all wanted a ride on the bike that was comfortable - they were all fast enough... so i had a stock sportster with a nice seat   :bananarock:

then a electra glide  :orange: it worked even better <evil> who gave a rats ass what the guys thought..

priorities...

Well, I'm in the minority I guess.  As to the original question, mine is bone stock and will stay that way.  I'm happy the way it is.  When it goes out of warranty and if I were to experience any engine problems I might at that point make some modifications.

Even though many responses have been from those who DID make engine/exhaust mods, the feedback is appreciated. Just verified a hunch I had...no matter how expensive or decked-out the bike is upon delivery...the urge to change or tinker is too great to ignore.  :)

For someone who's been at this awhile it might be habitual as well.  An expectation.  For a long time it's been almost a necessity to change pipes, tinker with the air and fuel intake in some way or do a few other things to make them run as well as they might.  It wasn't just that you could improve them; the gutless way these things were for so many years you almost had to.

Do that once or twice (or eight or nine times) and any sense of taboo over messing with a new bike is dead.  You start off with the expectation of having to do something.  So you do.

Conversely, someone who might be new to the rodeo will see more experience hands doing certain things.  They'll then either assume it's something that's a good idea also or will suffer little wee wee syndrome and won't want to feel left out.
