We spent New Years Eve day wandering through the Barber Museum , it was truely amazing.  I'd highly recommend it.
They are building a new Hampton Inn real close to the entrance , should be convienient for the races this coming year.

Enjoy the pics and Happy New Year to all.

We usually visit 2-3 times a yr. First class operation, beautiful grounds and great people. Mr. Barber himself is a super nice guy who you should meet sometime. The great thing about the museum is that the inventory changes out, so your next trip, you'll likely see some new bikes.

Thanks for the pics.  We ride over once a year and remain impressed, more like astounded, that such a museum is located near Birmingham, AL.  You could move it next door to the Air and Space Museum in D.C. and the Barber Museum would be an improvement to the neighborhood with its building, collection, and displays.  Here are some pics of unusual bikes:

IN-LINE 4 CYLINDER INDIAN:

Take note of the handshift lever's location on the right side of this machine. These early Indian’s had the throttle and front brake on the left handlebar, and the shift on the right. Conversion kits were later offered that swapped the controls to the other side.

Before 1975 there was no standardization of the controls, and you would see the brake and shift on either side. The shift pattern would go both ways; either up or down for low gear. A 1974 FX was up for low gear on the left; the ’74 XL was down for low on the right. Depending on the year they were produced, the Sprint was either left or right shift and ran both up and down for low gear. Imagine what it was like to work in a shop back then and road testing all of the different configurations.
