Here is a day by day account
I thought I'd keep everyone up to date on our holiday trip.
Today, day one, we didn't get out as early as we hoped but at 930 we hit it. Fairly uneventful until hurricane mills, lite drizzle but no problem, going through Memphis fairly dry and warming up. Upon entering Ark, we needed one, the bottom fell out and rained the rest of the way to little rock, which is where we are now, warmed up and drying out. They have an oriental restaraunt that delivers so that's our evening.
Ellen is a real trooper, but most of you knew that.
More tomorrow.
Day two, mr. Rain continued to thrill us leaving litttle rock and as we entered rt 30 we where advised that it was flooded and closed. We headed to pine bluff and found a lovely town named Dew Drop AR, they couldn't afford a banjo.
We were also entertained by mr wind/tornadoe/cold, as Ellen would say, f'n lovely.
Took 6+ hours to go 225 miles. In texarkana, pizza + bourban
life is good.
Day three started with a new experience, frozen bikes. All the rain we had taken on had worked it's way into all the little spots and as temps dipped into the 20's over night, many movable parts, didn't .
We took secondary roads due south hoping to find warmer temps. Took a couple hundred miles to get into the upper 30.
We ended day 3 in Livingston TX, we scroped San Antonio because of snow & ice in the D/FW area, we're heading to Corpus Christi.
By the way, Merry Xmas, we feasted on dorritos, cookies, snickers and whatever else the vending machine would cough up, this town closed up tighter than a tick on a hounds butt.
Day 4, nice sunny day and warmer until Port Lacava, lite rain but not a problem. Pulled into Corpus Christi shook down and went and had a wonderful meal at a steak/seafood place, we got a room right on the water with a beautiful view and Ellen is got toes In the sand.
Lookin to head further south today
Well we made to the Mexican boarder and much warmer. We checked into the Sheraton on south padre island. Just finished rebuilding from the hurricanes so everything is new and fresh. When we got to our we saw we had a pull out bed. I checked the connecting room door. Locked. Ellen went down to give a rash to someone, I discovered that the door wasn't locked and what we had was a suite with a huge king bed with that tempur pedic stuff, beautiful room tremendous view , we're staying two nights, gonna try and clean the bikes today and play touristas, had some real Mexican food for dinner & Plantanos chocolate for desert.
Oh, and great margaritas
Monday, we relaxed and took the local bus around the island site seeing, lots of t-shirt shops, learned the history of the place dating back to 1510. Went to a place called Dirty Als for seafood, good stuff and they had an Elvis impersonator, thank you, thank you very much.
Well today is a twofer post. While on the way down Ellen said she was getting a warning light (throwing a code) we went to the dealer in San Bendito TX. they ran a diagnostic and found that the voltage regulator was bad and they didn't have one, would take a week to get one. The head mechanic had a used take off that he gave us for free, put it on, total cost- $129.00 + they washed both bikes for free. Road Runner HD gets my vote for outstanding dealer and Craig, the head mech is straight up.
Back to the hotel for showers and beverages and then to the Big Donkey for dinner. Some canadians we met told us of a dance club within walking distance of our hotel, so, dance we must, cha cha slide. Those crazy canadians.
We left south padre this morning are now in San Antonio. Sun and warm all day, Ellen found 100+ mph. We are downtown ready to tear it up. Lookin for some Tex Mex. The only dilemma I'm having is bourban or margaritas, what to do?
Another twofer, first off, Happy New Year. We walked around San Antonio and visited the Alamo, the big celebration was about 3 blocks from the hotel. Big fireworks, heard it from the room, Zzzzzzz. Was sunny and 74
Left San Antonio and road I-10 into Lafayette LA air temp around mid 40s, going to start heading north , the trace?

?
We left Lafayette today but not without stopping at Cajun HD, the gills are packed, met some very nice people, was on the road at 11:15 and all was good as we got adventerous. Made it to Jackson MS and the temps started falling. Got friendly with the local PD and it turned into me holding court, with a short line of people wanting to talk to Ellen and I .
Pushed on to Granada MS and as we pulled into the hotel, the air temp was near 25.
Ellen said @#*€ me over, if you know what I mean.
We are about 100 mile from Memphis and should be home midday tomorrow,
Made it home safe and sound, coldest air temp we saw was 18. Got some good ideas about cold weather riding, with the right gear, very enjoyable.
Had a hot bath and 3 totties. Good to be home.
got home and had to get ready for a bike show this past weekend.
The Grey Ghost took 1st Place Screamin Eagle class, took 2nd place stock Dyna, and third place custom Softail
here's a pick from the show
