Rear Seat Luggage
« on: January 16, 2010, 12:29:21 AM »

What size and brand would any of you recommend.  I take a lot of 4 - 5 day trips and want a little more space than I have (Ultra) but don't always want to pull the trailer.  I want a bag I can pack up, strap down on the back seat, lean on and go.....

(Hey, no wife jokes   ::)

Have you looked at the Biker's Friend line of bags?  I have one and they work great.  You can put it on a seat or a rack.  It makes a nice backrest when you put it on a seat and it comes off easily.  It is easy to access things while on the road as well.

4-5 day trip shouldn't take much more than a saddlebag, frontside, backside, inside, outside, 4 days right there. My wife gets the unmentionals in the windshield bag.

I have tries all kinds of bags on my passenger seat and never could fine just the right one that would easily strap down, and allow me to open & close the tourpack without it getting in the way... Most often they are too wide and get caught on the arm rests or too deep and you have to keep fighting with it to keep it from being pinched by the lid on closing.

When traveling I always check out the local dealerships for the supply of bags they have and try them on the bikes in the showroom, to no avail...  As luck would have it, (and you know how you never find anything when you're looking), just yesterday while roaming around the Toronto Motorcycle Supershow I think I found the perfect bag!

It measures 15"w X 12"h X 10"d and apparently is waterproof!   Appears to hold enough for what I want and prior to purchasing it the fellow at the booth allowed me to take it away to another booth to try it on an Ultra.  This of course has not been tested by myself on the road yet, but it is the best fitting bag that I've found.

The best part is that with the "show deal" it was a great buy at $39.00 tax in!
Certainly not expensive, but I think it'll do me just fine for what I need it for.

Unfortunately there is no label on it, so I don't know what the make is... The company was from Montreal and they just travel around to different shows displaying all their various bags and other products.

I believe this size of bag will work for you and can only suggest to visit a few shows going on at this time of year and don't walk past the little booths that you think won't have anything your interested in.  But whatever you do, don't go out looking for a bag, 'cause you may never find it when you're looking.

Good luck!

When out on the FatBoy which has no bags or anything, I really like my CorTech Tail Bag. I have other CorTech products and swear by them. I find the external zipper pockets very helpful to keep needed items (like the rain cover they give you with the bag. Also has luminescent piping, reliable zippers, etc. Here is a distributor where you can see some: http://www.motodepot.com/product_list.php?cid=1090

Take a look at T-Bag Backseast Bag for the backseat and if you need additional storage check out the T-Bag Dekker Supreme to use on the luggage rack on your King Tour Pack.

I have a Kuryakyn Gran Tour bag that fits between my backrest and tourpak.  No strapping it in.  Flat side in front curves side fits the contour of the tour pak backrest.  Can open and close tour pak easily.

Saddleman just came out with a rear seat bag also.  Looks like ti fits well but have not seen one in the flesh yet.

I have a Saddlemen BR 3400 that I am very happy with!!!  They also have the BR4100 which is designed to fit between the rider and tourpack for the Ultra's.  You will be happy with this bag!!  Now there are lots of bags to choice from!!!   :drink:

Those look like really nice bags, but I don't see any way that it's going to fit on an Ultra.  The armrest create an obstacle to using a lot of bags.  I checked through all of their pictures on the site, and the closest thing to an Ultra was an FLTR with a tourpack, but it has the flat backrest pad.

Okay...I'm modifying this post.  I went back to the site and looked in a different place and there was one pic with their bag on an Ultra.  It looks like you can stuff one of the sizes on the back seat, but it certainly didn't look like you could get the bag open without taking it off the bike.

I prefer this one, available in different sizes.
Waterproofed and good backrest as well.

I'm guessing that those bags are from Ortlieb.  They do make them in all black also.
