Should I, or should I not?
« on: January 24, 2010, 12:51:45 AM »

Need to get a color matched (Orange) inner fairing as well as Wild One Chubby handlebars put on.  I am above well average on ability and tool possession.  However, I don't have a lot of time.

It will require new cables and lines due to length.  The money it would cost to have the Stealer do it is not an big issue, although I wouldn't mind saving it.

Thing is, my bike always comes back with something wrong after the Stealer works on it...I just don't trust em' anymore.

That would do it for me. At this time of year where I live, there's no hurry to do it all at once. I hate winter.

I did the same on my 07. The only thing you need is the longer brake line.  You'll need the upper and lower.  Other then that there is enough extra length with alittle rerouting.  Just make sure you write down where the wires go when you take the plugs apart to get them out of the bars.  I'm getting ready to put the chubbys on my 2010 next week.

I did my Wild Ones for the exact reason you said.  Just don't trust those on a time clock schedule.  Too many mistakes when they are done.
Took a whole day to do mine but when I was done there where no new scratches, dents, or problems.  I have a mechanic I now trust...he does excellent work and has never created any problems, trouble is there are too many other people involved when you have to leave your bike at the HD dealer.  I trust him, just not the surrounding kaos.
The last time I had the dealer  work on my bike the had some new lady service employee who inspected the bike before they worked on it.
Good idea!
Trouble is she could not look at it without rubbing and picking with her fingernails.  The bike was spotless other than dust and the bugs I picked up on the 2 hour ride to the dealer, so she did not do any damage, but J#%*us Chr$^%t its not a F#$@g cat don't pet the dam* thing.  My kid's know better than to rub a painted surface that has dirt on it, or the simple rule "look but don't touch".

It's amazing the lack of common sense some people have, let alone the lack of respect for others property.   :nixweiss:

I know, they put the newest guy on the oil changes, so how can anyone do any worse!

Yup, that's how the oil pan for the tranny became mysteriously stripped.  Pulled the plug to drain the oil and out came the threads with the plug.

I do my own fluid changes but while on a long road trip had it serviced at a dealer.  Never know for sure but I know darn well that I never overtightened it.

I have to let my son read this - he is stubborn when it comes to simple work on the bikes - I think he learned that lesson when he brought his home from an oil change and almost dropped it cause the "newest guy" at the shop he went to left part of the old seal on and installed the new filter over it - needless to say when it warmed up and dropped the oil all over the back wheel at 50mph  :soapbox: Kids - they have to learn the hard way
