Suspension Recomendation From Progressive
« on: January 26, 2010, 01:04:22 PM »

I contacted Progressive, told them how I rode and let them know I owned a 2007 SEUC. This is how they responded. I was a bit shocked that their new front end system might not work. What do you guys Think?

This is Progressives Reply;

           Hello

For the rear of the bike I would recommend our 440 series in HD and 13.0 inch height. This should bring the rear of the bike up one inch and to gain some more wheel travel for those touring tips.

As for the front end your bike being a CVO you might have a different lower fork leg witch will not allow the cartridge kit to be installed. If true the best option for the front end would be our 11-1131 fork spring kit.

           Thank you.

Hate to sound like a broken record! :D
If your not going to spend the money on the Traxxion front end, I think the next best thing would be to go with Ricor, or  Race Tech cartridge emulators. I have the Ricor and really like them, they make the bike feel like a totally different bike. Slightly stiffer, but not harsh, no frontend dive, greatly improved cornering. In fact if you search on Ricor, there is a 2nd buy for these units and I think there is still one set left for $200.

Scott, it appears the gentleman you corresponded with is under the false impression that the '07 SEUC came with the lowered suspension like the '04/'05 SEEG's did.  Note his comment that the 13 inch shock would raise the rear of the bike 1 inch.  That isn't true in your case, since the stock shock is already 13 inches.  Your front forks are also the stock (not lowered) parts, other than having the chrome package applied.

Thank you everyone, I was thinking the same and was suprised that Progressive sent an email without doing a little research. I am not really concerned with cornering, I am really looking to improve the ride.

I would have to agree with them that the 440's in 13" will improve your ride quality over stock units.

A front fork kit will also be an improvement over stock.
I believe the front fork internals had changed in MY09, if I remember right.

Well I did it....For better or worse.

Just dropped the bike off to have new 440HD's installed in the rear and the new Progressive Mono Tube Kit in the front. I realize some with feel I should have used a different front end kit, I just wanted to stay with Progressive all the way around. Will Report When I pick the bike up.

I spoke with Progressive, they said the reason they were unable to verify parts on the CVO is due to Harley not releasing information on the CVO's for the aftermarket, they said Harley dealers were the only source of informaion. I wonder why Harley keeps CVO data excusive to the Harley dealer circle?

Really looking forward to the new suspension.

It'll be nice to get a report on a bike with the new Progressive front end, not sure I've seen any real reports on this yet, let us know.

Hope you aren't going too "stiff" with the HD springs.  I did on my '05 SEEG (raised it back to 13") and had to change to the Std spring rates.  I'm about 225 and run 4 turns with the Std springs - 7 turns 2 up.  HD's were WAY too stiff.

I hope the HD's are not to stiff as well, that is what I ordered. I weight around 245 and often take my wife with me, adding more weight. Progressive recommended the HD's if you weigh more than 225. Time will tell, I will let everyone know what I think once the bike is completed, next week.

I have the 440's on one of my FLH's, and they work pretty well.
Went with Works on my '10 only because they custom built them for THAT bike, and how we use it.

I am satisfied with BOTH companies products. Ride quality is great on both bikes.

Hope this helps a bit.

Well guys and gals, here is the results.

I had the new Progressive Mono tube kit installed in the front end and Progressive 440HD's, 13 inch in the rear. 2007 CVO Ultra. The ride is vastly improved, no more bouncing on rough road, she feels solid as a rock. For me, this is as good as I dreamed it would. I am now very happy with my bike. The only down side, my bikes front end looks like it is slightly lower, maybe a half an inch. When I sit on the bike in my driveway, I am not sure that I can tell much differance, it moves up and down very similar to the way it was, when I ride the bike, it feels great, handling is more precise and easier. My Harley dealer installed everything and really took care of me. They quoted me 2 hours to install, it took them 5 hours. If I was doing this again, I would install the 440's and let it go at that, I would not spend what it cost to install the Mono Kit. I am not sure if the front end kit, installed, is worth the cost, I know the rear shocks were worth every penny. I guess I will never know being I had them both installed at the same time and I'm so happy with the way my bike rides and handles now.

Hope this helps

So you're saying you feel no difference in rebound up front?  Only feel a difference in the rear?

When I sit on my bike on my driveway, I really don't feel much of a differance, When I am riding the bike, it feels more stable and smoother, it also handles better. Not sure if that is all the rear shocks or if it's the combination. My guess, based on how it feels sitting still, working the front shocks, it's the rear shocks that made the vast majority of change. Im not a expert, I do like the way the bike now feels.

If you sitting on the bike roll it a foot and grab the front brake does the front end still dive?

Sitting on the bike, I rolled forward, grabbed the front brake, the bike's front end moves down a couple of inches, it quickly rebounds. I think the action is faster than stock but it does move down. I am not sure what that means, I think the biggest improvement is in the bikes overall ride and handling.....that may well be related to the addition of the 440HD shocks more than the front end kit...just not sure.

This upgrade really makes me wonder. Why doesn't Harley use better suspension parts day one. It would help them sell new bikes, I am somewhat surprised this suspension upgrade improved my bikes ride and handling as much as it did. While I am sure the new frame would be even better, this addition made me feel much more satisfied with what I have, especially when you consider the cost of upgrading to a new 2010.

Hope this helps
