Mmm January In New England
« on: January 20, 2006, 01:25:15 PM »

I figured...I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to enjoy it...we may be moving to the KC area soon, so why not take the bike out in the middle of a 50+ degree day in January in Boston?

Saw lots of middle fingers from the seasonal riding crowd.

Felt good!

Spring's coming!

Now you guys are going to make me feel bad. I got my [smiley=pumpkin.gif] out yesterday for a little ride (only had to wear a light leather jacket, temp in the high 50's). Today is even a better day temp now in the mid 60's. You forget how much fun it is riding when weather doesn't allow you to do it for a while. I know sometimes we think it would be nice to have year-round good riding weather, but I think since we can't ride year-round we appreciate the times we can ride more then those that can ride year-round. Anyway if wasn't for going to pick the grandkid up this afternoon I would be out now. Not to worry my Northern Bro's and Sis' it will be spring before you know it and we will have some of the most beautiful country to ride in.

FireDood, I was not able to play hookey this afternoon, but it sure looks gorgeous, mid 60s, but tomorrow it is supposed to be almost 70.  You know we will be out and about. Keep your eyes peeled for us, OK?   :D

Yep, wake up and soak in hot tub with coffee while it is only in the 40s.  Shower, dress, breakfast and it is already in the high 50s, then ride till it rains in the later afternoon and it is almost 70.  Not bad for 21 January, now is it?   :D  Comeon out with us. It will be fun.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

There have been a few days here in Chi-town lately with temps in the 50's, and the urge was very strong.  Then I thought about the sloppy roads and the salt, and put the keys back in the drawer.  I can't stand to let my bike sit for any length of time in a filthy state, and cleaning it in frigid weather without a heated space is definitely out (my tolerance for cold gets less and less every year).  So my question to those of you who do ride on the occassional good day in winter is, how do you do it?  Riding through a car wash probably isn't going to work.

As long as the water will not freeze on the driveway, we wash the bikes.  If it is warm enough we will wash and wax the bikes.  Seems like using carnuba wax almost builds a layer of wax that if you have to, you can use the spray cleaner when it is too cold for water.  Now the last two rides we had, we got caught in a down pour, that requires water, and luckily yesterday, we were able to wash and wax.  Probably the last time though.  We have been pretty lucky, but realistically, it may be March before the bikes see that kind of attention again.  :D

Not sure yet. It's job-contingent. But...I visited last week. Great bike town. Everyone seems to ride. Which makes the transition nicer :)

Good Luck with the possible decision...spend some time in KC, if you prefer a warmer climate in the colder months v. B, it's your place...One thing for sure, more warmer climate to ride.
