SE Cam upgrade
« on: January 22, 2006, 10:44:47 PM »

I have what I hope to be, a simple question. Could someone provide me with any information on the use of the Harley SE Cams out of there catalog for my 04 SEEG? Are there any other bolt-in type installation cams out there? I am currently running the SE Pro 2 into 1 Pipe, the SE Air Cleaner, and a Dyno-tuned Power Commander. I'm more of an agressive rider and would like to spice it up a little without sacraficing to much dependability and fuel economy for when I do long touring trips. If this ends up being a stupid question, could someone please provide with any other useful or simple suggestions to increase H.P. with bolt-on/simple modifications. I'm not really wanting to get into higher compression or head work. Thanks.

What gear drive cam with comp. increase for low $?

May also want to ask here (as I believe Freedom Cycles has some cam upgrades also)

There are a number of plug in cams available, I'd strongly recommend going with the gear drives.  I chose an Andrews TW31G which is like an SE 211 , but with gear drives and slightly more lift (.510 vs .508)

i don't really think you are looking to gain hp as much as torque.
you already changed the pipes air cleaner and download.
there is not much else to do without breaking the engine down.
a cam change would defintiely help with useable torque.
i think the stock cams duration is way to long.
you may want to look into the 257 cam.
it may be a good fit with the pipes you are running.
hope this helps.

You might as well go to gear drive while you're in there.  Take a look at either Zippers Red Shift 557 or S&S 570.  Too me they seem like a good replacement for the stock SE253 cam with better timing and valve lift in the same range as stock.  I don't know for sure but I'm betting they are both bolt in with no head work required.
