Had the same problem on my 07.  HD will replace it one time (per my dealer) under warranty.  This assumes you have the extended and pay the deductgable.

Good Luck.

I seem to remember lots of folks complaining about rubbing and wear through on the "leather" Tour Paks back in '06.  You might want to contact H-D and ask them to replace it, since this was a common and known problem.

Is that wear? If so how many miles, I have 59,000 and my leather does not show any signs like that.  If HD won't replace it there has to be a good glue out there to put it back in semi respectable shape then re black the entire tour pack.  Check with a custom upholstery shop for car interiors, they glue leather all the time.

I started noticing wear on mine early on and checked the fit. I found the lid moved too much without a passenger leaning on it. My fix was to adjust the lid to fit as tight as possible, eliminating movement and with 40k on the bike there is no more wear. I know this doesn't help you, but once you have it repaired/replaced make it a tight fit and save yourself trouble.

Jerry,
Do you suggest contacting HD at point of purchase and ask them to handle it,or contacting HD directly using letters and photographs?
I bought my machine the day before the two thousand sevens hit the floor.I did not opt for the extended warranty and my machine has thirty nine thousand on the odometer.I used the standard warranty one time for a couple of front rotors.

I'd suggest first asking the dealer to intercede with H-D on your behalf.  Many dealers have the capability to make "policy adjustments" on out-of-warranty items, and even if your's doesn't have that capability he can talk to his H-D representative and request an adjustment.

If your dealer isn't enthusiastic about helping, then I would take the request directly to H-D.  A phone call might work, but a letter with photo's may have more impact.  No rant, just state the facts as you see them, point out what you believe would be a fair resolution, and ask for their assistance.

Checked mine out. 59,000 miles only 3 small rubs about a 1/2 inch long 1/16 inch wide barely rubbed the shine off the leather.  either mine was lined up the way it should have been from the factory or I am lucky.

Grahn1967, I would suggest using "Gorilla Glue" to reattach your leather where it is loose, and than put on some Doc Bailey's leather Black for the cosmetic fix. I use Gorilla Glue for lots of things in my workshop. It works good for attaching a leather tip to the end of a pool cue so it will probably hold your leather in place on your tour pack. Good Luck with that. CAHDBIKER

I'm on my second tour pak...got the one-time "good faith" replacement from the MoCo...what I've done in the areas that I noticed potential wear on this one, I put small strips of black duct tape on the edge.  So now the tape wears and not the tour pak.  The tape is replaceable, which is a good thing. :)  I know this doesn't help what's happened, but if you do get another one and start noticing rub spots, try that little trick.
