Super Tuner - Recalibration Speedo
« on: March 25, 2010, 08:40:07 AM »

My 08 SERK has the HD Super Tuner installed. I have recently had an Andrew's 30t front pulley and necessary belt added to her mods. I'm wondering if the Super Tuner has the capability to dial in the calibrations to correct the speedo to the new pulley ratios. I know the TTS tuner has this ability but does the Super Tuner?

Did the same as you but on my 07 UC Trike.

Google --> dakota sim-1

Unless they are making a new style module now you will need to wire it in near your ECM as I did. They come set up for 06 and earlier.  If you do this let me know. I still have the wiring diagram how it was installed and which wires I took power from. Wasn't hard, just tight working area's.   :2vrolijk_21:

No, they do not have that feature yet.  Aftermarket addon Spedo Calibrators are real inexpensive and easy to install and use.

I have the Dakota sim-1. I was wondering if there was a way around having to add it. Thought with the new Super Tuner having some of the other features of the TTS maybe this was added recently.

Thanks, figures. Is it true the Dakota will effect the "6" speed indicator not allowing it to function? Cruise control still will work?

Can't speak to the sixth gear indicator Jeff (though I thought it illuminated based solely on the ratio of RPM and speed).  The Dakota part won't bother cruise control though.

Actually the 30T has already messed up your 6th light for you. The ECM looks for a particular signal range from the VSS at a certain RPM. So, no, your 6th gear light will not work. I have no issue with my cruise control though.

My 6th gear light is still working after the change.  :nixweiss:

I've only put the Dakota part on bikes old enough they didn't have the 6th gear indicator.  If my (limited) understanding of it is correct the light is engaged by hitting a range indicated by a ratio of RPM and speed that would only happen when in sixth.

If that's correct just installing the Dakota part wouldn't change anything.  Even setting the calibration wouldn't necessarily lose the light for you.  Only changing the calibration to an extent that the cross reference of RPM vs. speed no longer matched within the appropriate range.

That;s the way Dakota explained it me.... and I quote

The Harley computer is not seeing a predetermined numbers of pulses.  You have changed that for the correct speed now.  You can readjust the speed so that it may be a bit off, but yet be closer to what the computer is looking for to tell you that you are in 6th gear.

Thanks Don.  Well I guess I will have to install it and see what happens

When it comes to this particular scooter and me, lucky I have not been!

Not true because the ECM is comparing the VSS to the tach and determining final drive ratio and when it equals what is programmed for 6th gear the light is triggered on.  Because the rear pulley is after the primary drive and trans, the 6th gear light will still work but the speedo is off.

After changing my 30T and belt size I lost 6th gear light. Can only explain here what I know happened. I put the Dakota Sim 1 on a few weeks later.

I let ya know if the same holds true after I have mine installed. They have my 02 SERK (Ruby) in for a tune now as well as finishing up on my son's crashed 84 FXR. When those are ready to come home, I take the 08 SERK (Lexi) in. I'm still doing my bit to stimulate the economy.

Thanks for the info! Still seems like the only way to correct the speedo is with the SIM-1.

I added the 30T and the Dakota Sim 1 and lost the 6th gear light.
