I have 2 lifts. 1 lifts the whole bike up for general work that does not involve the wheels & the other lifts the wheels off. Some times I use them both at the same time

Wow, talking about "Brass Balls"!!! You definitely got more nerve then I do. I'm scared enough just putting it up on my Sears scissor jack to detail bike.

Pitbull Lifts out of Tenn, They are the guys you see at Daytona behind the Beach Street HD dealer. They are real big on telling you tieing down the bike is unnecessary (I don't agree) but their lifts are first class. Good rollers, base is big enough that the unit is very stable etc. Grease fittings on the lift.
Nice product, he always gives a discount if picked up at the show, but I can not remember the price. One thing about all of these lifts, whether it be the (Way too narrow for a Harley) Sears/Sam's club unit or the Pitbull/Black Jack type jacks. They all need to have the bike all the way up when in use. This puts the bike in the "center" of the base which makes it stable. If you try to use it partially raised the weight is "hung" off the side making the lift tippy. If the weight is hanging off the side, it makes the unit heavy on that side and much more prone to tip that way. A 800# load that is tipping over WILL hurt you!

What is the best lift for minor alterations and cleaning ?

The best lift? Mine of course! I just ride right up on it, I can set it an any height and spin it....I never have to back down my driveway!  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I can't tell you how nice it is to get the bike up in the air to work on it, without having the damn lift itself in the way!

So you just going to leave us hanging and not let us know who makes this lift and where it can be purchased? [smiley=confused5.gif] Is that anyway to treat your fellow "OCD/SEO" junkie brotha's and sista's? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Well, now that you asked....

It is a Bestway lift http://www.bestwayhydraulics.com/
The people there are super nice! I bought mine used (not from them) and they helped me out with alot of questions and advise. In fact I bought 2! One is just standing up in the corner of my garage.

I think mine are both model 6SPCH with a 6 1/2 in dia. cylinder

It is air over hydraulic. Air from a regualr old compressor is used to pressurize the hydraulic fluid. It is really very cool. I just intalled this lift about a year ago. Had a core hole cut in the concrete, dug it out 54" and dropped it in!

You are right, they are used in shops often. Mine actually came from a shop that remodeled.

I hate doing oil changes, so I never do my own, however my buddy does his on this same lift. This plate is made for Harleys and you should be able to access the drain plug.

Here is a pic....the reason you see black through the holes and not bike is because I put a rubber mat on there when it is just up for cleaning.

Lots of holes down there.  I'm assuming that small holes are for something like J bolts to more firmly hook the bike's frame to the lift during service?
