07 SERK side bags
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:08:46 PM »

Hmm....I'm trying to find my side bags on the HD site to see how much another set would be...is there a reason why I can't find them ?  I can't imagine they're not available, what if the bike took a spill and I needed them ?  Anyone have a clue ?

Probably because they don't post CVO stuff on the regular site.  You local dealer will be able to quote a price.

I have the 08 SERK. Here's the p/n and price as a reference. 88284-08 Right side, 88285-08 Left side - $899.95. Mother Harley is quite proud of em. That's why I'm keeping mine. I've had several ask to buy em but no one wants to give 50% for em so I'll just store em. FWIW

If you watch ebay you could pick a set up.  I see them on there every so often.  I sold mine on there as well.

Hey Ghost Rider, if you don't mind me asking, what did you get for yours ?  Just curious what they fetch on Ebay.

I guess riding is Washington weather year round is going to cost me, cost me more than the modded gills behind my ears even.....pffft  ???

Its been two years and several dead brain cells since I sold them, but I believe I got right around $1,000.  I sold the bags and the tour pak together as a set.  They sold in less than a day.

Hmm.....wondering if I should just get a set of hard bags and see if the leather can be restretched on my originals somehow maybe.  They look fine they're just a little wavy in places, from the weather I guess, or if they're bonded to the plastic the adhesive has let go in some areas..../shrug.  Live and learn.  You would think they would hold up better, don't HD know some folks ride in the rain.  On second thought they probably do and that's why a new set is a couple G's....bah.

Not long after the 07's came out there were a few discussions on here about the quality of the leather bags.  Many folks were complaning about "waves" or "lose" spots in the leather.  The official reply from HD was, "thats the way leather bags are.  The skin will expand and contract based on conditions."  I would notice a little wave in mine right after washing, but it was never enough to bother me, and they did tighten up some if I left them to dry in the sun.  It just depends on how much the baggy skins bothers you.  I have no regrets about going to the hard bags, way more room.

Well I will say this, that bike of yours looks sweet Ghost Rider.  I've always liked the contrast of my black bags against the red paint, but yours does look very nice.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the compliment.

Several of the guys from this site have had hard bags painted for the 07 and 08's and its a really cool way to add a custom touch to your bike.
