The seat on the 2009, and the reflectors
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:15:21 PM »

I'm new to CVO and new to this forum.  Just bought an orange one two weeks ago brand new from Barnett in El Paso.  Might be the last new one.  It was made in March of '09.  Broke it in riding back to San Antonio on Highway 90 where you can vary your speed and stop in the middle of the highway anytime.  Now I'm making some adjustments even though I love the bike.  Ordered a Cee Bailey 14" which seems to be popular.  The seat is terrible.  I can't believe they put that cheap flimsy piece of crap on this bike.  I've read where the MOCO is replacing them and I'm wondering what is different about the replacement?  Should I bother, or just order a Corbin or something.  I can ride the standard Heritage seat on my 2007 500 miles without issue, so I know I'm not a wimp.  Also from looking at everyone's pictures, the reflectors are generally gone.  I already removed the stupid looking one above the taillight.  Is there anything I need to know before pulling the ones off the saddlebags or the fork?  I'm not so worried about the fork but I certainly don't want an issues on the saddlebags.

I've been doing a lot of reading in this FLTRSE area and there have been some excellent threads.  A lot of top notch members around here who know a lot about these bikes.  There doesn't seem to be any issues with the 2009 other than a few recalls and the saddle.  My rear wheel did have to be replaced when Barnett was making the bike ready due to that recall.  Was worried about the 110 rear cylinder but seems like that was handled somehow for '09.  Extended the warranty just in case.  Thanks for any guidance.

Same here.  Dealer has ordered frame blocks first (gotta play their game)...but seeing as how 50% of the time I get in the throttle at take-off the seat pops out of the front bracket, I'm thinking a new seat will be in my future.  My gap  :o is really big!

The look of the seat is fine.  The gap is just unacceptable; expecially on a CVO bike.

H-D wore me down. Installed a Corbin Gambler last week...comfortable and fits. Went thru a Klock Werks, and Clearview shield to learn what many here had already posted...go Cee Baily. The 14" dark tint super step is the real deal for the serg. I'm 6 foot...the wind hits at my hair....and the stereo and fullsacs sound much better.

I went with a mustang solo....great seat! I wish I would have bought the solo with a backrest though.

Welcome to the site and you'll find the O/B is the fastest color, hands down!

I like the look of the stock seat and have heard the "fixed" seat actually works - but I'm sticking with my 1" gap because I had my stock padding modified by Mean City Cycles in NC to keep my BSR happy.  She's happy and my gap only looks bad when riding so I just ride fast enough that no one can see it.

Good choice on the CB windscreen - am very happy with look and performance on mine and have put 12K miles, mostly highway, with it on.  I got the 15" and am 5' 11", can look through or over it easily.

Charlie, it's 633 but I'm thinking mine was the last unsold new one, not the last new one built.  You're not going to like hearing this but I paid $28,000+TTL.  Barnett in El Paso had two O/B.  A friend and I negotiated a deal for the both of them.

JP,

A lot of guys on thos forum talked about Corbins seats and frankly, I just didnt get it. Thought they were too hard, was not even sure about the looks (the Corbin web site does NOT do them justice) but... At the urging of JC I bit the bullet on the Corbin and I gotta say, it's the best $$ I've ever spent on a motorcycle. Can't explain it but this is the best seat I've ever ridden on... and Had every HD seat imaginable, Mustang, etc... HANDS DOWN worth every penny.
I went with the Classic Solo with Passenger Pillion... Here's a pic FYI.

I'm a touch over 6' and they recommended the 14".  It gets the air over my head just fine but I would have gone 15" now that I know the height.  It's really good looking and shows excellent quality.  I get a very light ear slap at times but I doubt that's from the windshield.  Seems to be turbulence coming up from the sides under the fairing.  First Road Glide so I'm getting used to how the wind moves around that fairing.  The bike is just a stunner.  I'm not used to getting so much attention.  This July I'm riding it to California to visit my brother.  Really looking forward to that.

CAP, great close-up picture of what I ordered Friday!  I'm a believer in closed cell foam technology.  I ride road bicycles to keep the weight off and closed cell is often used to make those skinny little saddles way more comfortable than they look.  I was able to see a new Gunfighter in person last week which pushed me over the edge.  It had such a quality look, and the fit on the bike are snug and perfect.

I had the fix done today. When sitting on the seat before, there was a 1" gap. After the fix, when sitting on the seat there is a 1" gap. The replacement seat will be shipped from the MoCo on April 16.

The games that we have to play....
