cat or no cat what is the difference
« on: March 31, 2010, 09:20:00 PM »

Need some help I am being told to dump the cat and some people are telling me to keep the cat and that it wouldn't make a difference. Could I get some feed back I'm sure this had been talked about before but I can't find it. I am going to have the bike tuned and I am running HI-OUTPUT PRO V&H need to cool it down.       Thanks for any help

AND I GET BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

Hey Donny, anything that you do to get rid of the heat is going to be a plus on the comfort side alone. I have the same bike as you and went with the Fullsac 2 inch cores in my stock mufflers, an exhaust header from a 09 Street Glide that was ceramic coated, so that i can save my factory original exhaust pipe with the cat still installed, just in case that one day the emissions police don't come back to bite me. The TTS Mastertune and map that I got from Fullsacs has been in the bike for over a month and the smile on my face still proves that this was a good choice. And the best part is you can do it all by yourself and a couple of 6 packs. Look up Fullsacs on the search above and read up. There are other systems on the site also if you will look in the intake/ exhaust/ ECM. Good luck in what ever you choose, because it will be better than stock. Also, good choice on the color of your scoot. O/B always leads the way. Andy.

CATs are designed to absorb and retain heat. When they first came out on cars there was a problem with them catching stuff on fire underneath the car. Although the design has greatly improved over the years, it's still kinda like having a heater box next to your leg. If you are worried about epa getting stricter with enforcement, then you can always add a set of cat mufflers later on. Putting the cat in the headpipe is a bad idea in my opinion. I think it had to do with changing fuel control from to Lamda vs AFR.
