« on: April 02, 2010, 06:47:57 AM »

Can anyone suggest why my o9  ultra  runs hotter now?  i went from a pcv with auto tuner to a tts system i got from fulsac performance. i  used they sent me a map with it, 107 ,54h cam map, its runs good and milage is good but now i can feel a lot more heat off the engine, Theres not any  detenation  i thought it would be snappier,  maybe its me

 :o :o :o

First of all, the TTS is running at 14.3 to 14.7 AFR while the PV V almost assuredly was running close to 13.8 and maybe even 13.5 steady state.  This is the primary difference in the heat (and on my bike it was a huge and noticeable decrease when the AFR went Down).

I assume your cat is gone.  Not much the TTS can do about the heat unless you run the bike in open mode and reduce the AFR to 13.8.  My bike actually improved in power, less heat and much better gas mileage when I remove the SSERT, the cat and installed the PC V with AT and Stage I A/C.  Went from 38 to 41 two up over ten thousand miles.

I know there is lots of debates about the PC V and AT but I would never switch bike to the 14.5 to 14.7 AFR on my bike.  Too hot and I didn't get any better gas mileage.  I ride most of the time in South Texas where it is in the 90's with high humidity.  The lower AFR is great for my bike.

That said lot's of guys on this forum love the TTS as you already know.

Thanks diamondback  thats was my thought also, I took heat shields off, might have to put them  back on, my pcv was richer  it was as low as 12.9   at some settings with great power,TTS seems as powerful although throttle response is better now,

Actually the leanest af/ratio on  my pcv was 13.9,  i also put back on my fullsac 2.0 slip ons  had reinharts  I go back and forth some weeks,  i almost wanna say reinharts are a bit  more powerful, might be my hearing them although  might be physological cause they are louder. i dont think it really matters

I like my Rineharts.  Had D&D 2-1.  Great power, great torque,  loud, very loud.

You might try getting the bike tuned.  Here is the main reason "canned" maps from anyone for any device will not be optimal for your specific bike: http://www.visi.com/~moperfserv/Injectors.mht
Your bike will then be opitmized for your injectors and motor.

Before temp:   ?

After temp:    ?

If you run your V-tune you can check to see if you're at optimal VE's or not. It would be a good starting point before you start changing the map you have.

Just a thought of what I'd do, without a dyno.

MHO, of course!

a canned map for a TTS is nothing more than a starting point. Get Docs ddirections, read the manuals with TTS and do some VTunes to begin with. Once you have the VE's dialed in you can change AFR anywhere you need to. I run closed loop with offset to make it about 14.2, then pull it out of closed loop where needed (like at idle speeds in traffic).. My 09 Street Glide gets 45 mpg running two up (350 pounds total) and stays cool as well. The 103 pulls the front wheel up in first and second gear under full throttle. Running highway at 65 I get over 50 mpg, but once I speed it up 75 or better it drops to 45. The main advantage of the TTS is it lets you figure out what the motor wants. I also set the throttle to open like a cable on my TBW bike.

Once you have it dialed in some, run some data gathering runs and start dinking with Ignition timing. If you have the will, TTS gives you the way. Short of a dyno, I haven't seen a better way to tune.

Interesting article on the heat diffferences between 14.7 and 13.5.  Substantial difference.

And it wasn't published bye Dynojet.

Yes, that isn't from DynoJet but it is from someone selling a device to run the bikes richer, so take it for what it's worth. The richer you run things the cooler to a point they will get but, the down side is that it cost you mileage and throttle response. So its a balance of just rich enough to keep the heat at a level your happy with and get the best mileage. The TTS will allow you to do it all if you so chose to or let someone else do it. While you have the tools to do it right there you have to have the will to do it. If you do not like the heat level your getting figure out where your at in RPM and MAP and richen just that area some. Once the Vtuning is done which you should do (prior to richening the bike) so the ECM is calibrated all you need to do is move the AFR table richer and you will get cooler but you will also loose mileage and some throttle response if you go to far.

thanks for the input, i went 400 miles this week end and the throttle response is much quicker,   the power is really there and  ,  im going to run vtune as soon as i get a new battey for my laptop, and we will see where the afr's are at, they shouldnt be to far off, its the 107 map from fulsac and my build as almost the same except for 1.72 rocker arms  and  and half a cubic inchine is  106 verses 107 (106.5) so   it should be really close,  the fuel mileage is good also  and lots of torque
