Decided to start a new thread about the monotubes. Ordered mine this winter and had them installed. Yesterday was my first ride with them. During the 100 mile ride, I noticed they felt about the same as the stock shocks. Couldn't really tell a big difference, maybe better in cornering. I also had a new 408 front tire put on at the same time, so maybe it wasn't a fair test. There was no vibration or shimmy to 100 mph, very smooth. They seemed to almost bottom out, althought they didn't. But travel was fairly long. My only complaint is when I hit the front brake hard, there is a "clunk". Doesn't make a difference how fast I going. Slow--clunk, fast---clunk. If I put constant slow pressure on the brake, it doesn't clunk. Only when I hit the brake quickly.
Took it to the dealer and they rode it and determined it wasn't the floating brake rotor. It was in the front end. He said it seemed to travel too far, compared to the stock suspension. They questioned the neck bearing and will tighten it on Monday.
I called Progressive and they said it may need more preload. They are sending me a set of preload spacers to add. The kits they sell now all have them included. They say this may be causing it to bottom out and it needs more preload. The problem is, now it will cost me another $300 to have the preload put in, being it took them 3 1/2 hours to switch them to begin with. And if one spacer isn't enough, then I have to add two--that's right, another $300 to add another spacer. And we still don't know if this will take care of the clunk. He says that me weighing 240# my require a preload.
Has anyone else noticed this clunk? Has anyone else had them bottom out or come close? Sometimes looking for better leads to badder. Almost wish I hadn't started this journey. Will let you know more as it progresses.
