Dresser Duals - Holy Cr*p They're Loud
« on: April 13, 2010, 10:17:48 PM »

Six hours to replace the stock headpipes with the V&H Dresser Duals and OMG they're loud.  Way too loud for me.  Using V&H slip-ons.  Bike sounded pretty good with the stock headers and the V&H slip-ons but I wanted a little more volume.  Wasn't expecting this.  I had to put the stock slip-ons on and now it sounds anemic.

Does anyone know how the Fullsac 1.75" baffles compare to the V&H slip-ons?  Are they quieter?

What model V&H slip-on?  Some are louder than others. . . . .

16751 - Basic Slip-Ons

Sound pretty good with the stock headers, just not quite loud enough.  I had no idea changing the headers would make that much difference.  I'm thinking the Fullsac 1 3/4 baffles are probably the ticket.

WHat did you do to change headers?  Did you take the cat out?  Did you tune it?

I replaced the stock headers with V&H Dresser Duals.  They are dual headpipes.

I was in the same boat with my Ultra. The Rinehart true duals were just too loud (standard baffle). I got a set of 1.75's from Steve since I had an extra set of CVO cans and installed them last week. Much better.... was about half of the Rinehart crack. Duals are going to be a little louder, that's just a fact of life. I've got the 1.75's on my SESG with Steve's X Pipe. It is not as loud as my Ultra with the same baffles.

I've had my day with loud bikes and enjoyed them but the older I get I enjoy being able to hear after I step off the bike or listen to the radio while cruising.

I had the same set up also. The only mufflers that worked for me were the V&H monster ovals. They were just right but alot of $. TD look great but they are alot louder and need mufflers with the right chambers for the exhaust the flow through.  I don't think the stock mufflers with FS baffles are what your looking for. If you think about the exhaust  flows straight from the cylinder and right out the end of the muffler with no scattering at all. I don't know if this helps or not.

I put on the dresser duals with the HO Slip Ons; IMO They can be loud if you really stomp on them, but seem to settle down nicely at cruising speed.  Not sure how the HO Slip Ons compare to the standard slip ons for sound.  I've not seen another bike around here that has a similar set up.

Don't forget that V&H has the Monster Rounds now too.  They should have the same sound/performance of the monster ovals, except they are, I think 5" round cans...

Am I getting old?
The stock mufflers on the '10's are sounding pretty nice to me!

I took them off.  Just way too loud.  Going to put the stock headers back on.

So... I'm thinking since I've got the headers off of drilling a hole in the cat.  Maybe 1" or so.  Just to open it up a bit.

You are definitely getting old...  :huepfenlol2:  Those, IMO, are the mose anemic sounding mufflers the MoCo has ever come out with.  (Unless you like the sound of a Goldwing, that is.  :o )

I wouldn't recommend doing that.  Don't forget, those are 2 into 1 into 2 headers.  If you drill only one hole in the cat and it doesn't line up to either of the incoming/outgoing pipes of the collector, all you've done is drilled a hole in the cat.  If you do match up somehow with one of the pipes, then you've unbalanced the headers and will probably be impossible to tune properly.  If you drill two holes to match up with the two incoming/outgoing pipes of the collector, then you might as well send it off to Steve at Fulsac and have him remove the cat entirely.  The cat is not located in the header, but in the collector.  Keep your true duals on and put a quieter set of mufflers on, your bike will run cooler and perform better than with trying to mess with that cat.  JMO.
