TTS Mastertune Single Bike to Two Bike
« on: May 06, 2010, 01:14:19 AM »

I'm curious how the TTS Mastertune limits the use to just one or two bikes depending on which is model is purchased?  I assume I can reinstall the software if needed on a different laptop without issue.

Yup, you can use as many separate computers you want.

I have a single TTS and one dual TTS. I'm sure the software in the VCI has the limitation for one or more ECM locks.

Thats good about the use of more than one laptop.  I borrowed my daughters to do the install and was somewhat concerned if I need to reinstall the software on another laptop in the future.  I guess I don't understand how the software controls the number of uses.  I actually was hoping the original OEM configuration was saved in the hardware dongle as well as being backed up on the upload directory and that would be what limits it.  That way I wouldn't need to worry about backing up the original factory map.

Back up your map directory to a thumb drive or burn it on a CD. That way you can take it to any computer you wish but no, your bike ECM is locked to the actual TTS device not the computer you used to flash.

The OEM map can only be put back on the ECM it came from using the TTS that is married to the that particular ECM, if that makes sense. The OEM .MTE file is not stored in the TTS that I am aware of. If it is... one of the TTS guys will laugh at me and say it ain't so very soon.

I think that makes sense to me.  I did back up the original file to a few different sources (email, thumb drive, and external HD).  Thanks for the explanation.  It's a little scary to me reprogramming the ECM but it all worked well.  It doesn't seem likely that I would ever need to restore the original OEM configuration provided the new map is working properly which it is.

Thanks!

Sure... take your TTS home (never leave it with your tuner) and install the software on your computer. Attach the cables and check to see if the Mastertune data says it is locked to your ECM. It will say "Locked" or "Unlocked".

Now there's no way of telling if the dealer did a good job with the tune but if you get on and twist the throttle and you fall off the back then you know the tune is pretty good.

youd be hard pressed to find a HD dealer that would use the TTS

Not sure if I agree or disagree. Would depend on the area that you live in. There are so many dealers in Atlanta that the one up the street will not only dyno with one but sell you a TTS... Doc was at Harley of Atlanta this past Monday giving a class so that would be two in my area.

Not sure about Franklin though.

I noticed my local dealer Simi Valley Harley had the TTS on display for sale but don't know if they normally use them.  The product is new to me but from what I read it seems to be one of the better.  I like that no hardware is needed on the bike, it can be restored to factory and is easy to use and controls so many parameters.

There are plenty of HD dealers worldwide that not only sell but install Mastertune. Most all of them know the product well because they have used it from 2002 to 2008 when we sold it through HD. There are a lot of dealers that have gotten very tired of ""Nolan" biting them over and over again and now only use Mastertune.

OK, I'll ask, what is "Nolan"?

The FisherPrice tuner...opps...I mean the ProTuner from Harley has a problem of locking up computers several times while trying to tune with it and when the computer locks up a window pops up saying ''Nolan is having a problem'' We believe Nolan is the last name of the man who developed the ProTune for SPX...... :nixweiss:
