every year the first rides in warm weather with only braincap make some most disturbing "new" noises appear out of nowhere ...

From the ones I have heard in person, the 110 is generally not a quiet motor....

My '07 makes what can only be called an Embarassment of Noises.

Trust me, assuming H-D survives and joins the 21st century, when they finally go to water cooling and hide the Rotax engine inside an insulated cowling the noise problems will finally be solved.  I hear from the pool boy that the initial plan is to provide a CD of real engine sounds for the nostalgia buffs to play as they cruise down the highway, to make the transition a little easier.

Will need a CVO VIN to get the CVO engine noises CD - other HD's get the non-CVO labeled CD which costs 2/3 as much.  But all of these CDs will have decel pop & will need to be recalled "enhanced"...

I have a little over 30,000 miles on my SERK. I have complained about the noise and I too find it embarrassing. The bad part is that as I tack on the mileage the noise increases. I don't have a radio and even if I did at low speeds on country roads it wouldn't help a bit. It's annoying and will actually ruin my ride unless I wear my ear plugs. Will going to a 117" make it go away, I'm at a point where I don't want to spend any more money on these 110's. Funny thing is that I have ridden other SERK's that the owners said their bike made no top end noise at all when it fact it was much worse than mine. Sometimes I think I just ask for to much.

I have 7k on my bike and sometimes it sounds as if the engine will come apart at any moment but it runs fine. It ticks, clicks, bangs, and makes a rattle at times.... I guess all is normal!

Nope
Lots find that is when the exhaust valves are sticking and hitting pistons

You are saying that these noises are the exhaust valve smacking into the pistons??

Yes
You can play the dealer game but to fix it right the heads will need higher quality properly fit exhaust guides and better valve seals, both aftermarket. While in there the intakes should be changed.

I must be the luckiest sumbitch ever!  My 08 SEUC motor with 30K miles is quiet as can be expected for an ICE.  Compared to my 125" metric...Ha!  My HD is quiet....except for the Rineharts  ;D
