I-pod nano connected to audio but not loud enough
« on: May 11, 2010, 02:41:05 AM »

I connected the ipod with this http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW684LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ&mco=MTA4ODAyNjU&s=topSellers but it is not loud enough , i can`t hear the music when i start the engine (stock pipes) . the volume of the ipod is turned to maximum allowed .
Also the charger LED does not show a charging function ( in the car it does , but there i do not have a aux-in to test the volume ) .
My bazooka amp is connected to the cigarette lighter , maybe the amp needs to much so that there is not enough anymore for the ipod charger ????
But how does it work to get a better volume level ????

I can't help you with the volume but I can tell you that there is sufficient power available at the cigarette lighter to operate your amp and the IPod charger. If the IPod charger is not showing a charge function then maybe it is bad. If you’re IPod works with ear buds then the IPod is good. Where do you have the output from the IPod connected?

Sounds like multiple problems. No reason the charging LED indicator should not be lit, and you should absolutely have enough volume from the pod through the aux. Recheck all connections. There is no reason why this should not work.

If you want more of a positive connection, try this link   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=48948.0

Have you tried to connect the same iPod Nano via Aux using a simple cable to the radio? Just to see if the sound is okay this way. Also, even if the Nano is not charged it should work for a while on internal battery. I've been using a cheap Ipod Shuffle with a double sided plug into Aux with excellent results. Runs about seven hours on its battery.

The cigarette lighter does work -
The Charger does work in the car and the LED does also light in blue but in the car no aux in .
The ipod output runs to the aux-in at the front of the harmann cardio of the SERG.
Also the charger would contact and rub the tank because it is too big .
Now i will try a simple connection cable http://store.apple.com/de/product/TV974ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ&mco=MTE0NTQ0NDA&s=topSellers
without charger .

In the manual of your bike it probably says that the cig lighter is not fit to supply current for other devices, however many of us have used it to power anything from phones to GPS units without trouble. There is a separate thread with more input about that problem: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=49330.0

I had a volume problem with my iPhone connected to the AUX port.  It turned out the volume of the iPhone was only half way up.  No matter how load I turned up the turner, I just couldn't hear my music.  I felt foolish after I realized what caused the problem.  Just thinking. . . . . .   Good luck!  :drink:

I had the bazooka amp and it sucked!  >:( Go with an amp with more wattage and your ipod will be louder, mine is. I went with biketronics amp system and very pleased with the system.

I have a Monster car kit for the ipod that i found on amazon.com..  it works great and plenty loud too.  I strapped it inside my faring with an HD cig lighter and powered it with the connection at the headlight. I ran a good ground to the frame on the neck on the right side. I'm really happy with the way it sounds and is always charged. I ran the cable up the handle bar and mounted it on a Riders Claw. I also use a Hawg Wired amp.. Maybe that helps some too..  Good luck.

The outer case of the lighter should be negative, the center post in the bottom should be positive. Many small electronic circuits like the IPod are designed for this polarity. Change it it may do the trick, it will not hurt and it just may fix your problem.

I'm planning to go there as well. Was always a big fan, however the last couple of years the music wasn't that great. The new album, however, is very very good. Not consistent with the message though: "The best is yet to come" vs. "Only the good die young" ;-).
