Big bore build update
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:58:02 PM »

Update on the build I did on a 2007 Road glide with stock 96 C.I. motor.
I put in the 103 big bore kit, SE MCR performance heads, SE-259E cams and perfect fit push rods, heavy duty clutch spring. I also added a used Thundermax with autotune I bought off the board, thanks MILE_HIGH.

Got a map somewhat close to my build installed in the Thundermax. Idle is good and runs great, no popping on decel etc.
The auto tune should get it closer with time, I have 250 Miles on it.  It starts easy and runs much stronger. I did a couple roll ons with a buddy who has a 2009 RG. Prior to the work he always pulled on me mainly because the 09 has different gearing I think. Now its not even close. In 5th gear going about 55 MPH I pull on him immediately and after 8 seconds or so I have about a 10 bike lead on him. Did the same thing in 4th gear and he was way back there at least 30 bike lengths. I thought he backed off or something. After stopping he said no he was on it the whole time.
Power seems to come on stronger in higher RPM range but still has way more torque than stock going by roll on results.
So if it don't blow up at some point I'm happy. Maybe next I will invest in the 30 tooth tranny sprocket.

Thanks everyone for your advice and guidance.

Not trying to pick nits here.  Hell, I even somewhat reluctantly own a T-Max now.  But even when they work to full capability there seems to be a misconception about how much they'll do; and how much they won't.

The autotuning devices can't really dial the bikes in.  All they mess with is fuel.  And that's only half the battle.  If we have no idea if our timing settings good relative to the build we have no idea if we've got a tuning setup that effectively takes advantage of what the bike might offer.  Altering fuel on the fly all day long won't change that.

Thread's not really about the Thundermax but that said it runs good for now until I can get the time to get it dyno tuned.

I 103" BB and installed an andrews 26h, a spectacular difference. I'm using the #493 map (closest to the 26H valve timing).
"Twolane" mentioned lack of "auto" ignition timing ability, run "Monitor log" (roll on and light throttle) and check AFR's and timing.
Increase AFR's in light cruise area, if there is no pinging add timing 1* increments 'till it pings then back off.
Improves MPG and pull.
All the best on your upgrade.
