Passenger Headset socket scratched saddle bag lid
« on: February 11, 2006, 02:51:09 PM »

The title should say it all. I showed this to my dealer. I said this can not possibly be the way it is suppose to be. The socket is suppost to fit in the holder thing under the tourpak and face outward. As there were no other SE's (with the leather tumor) when had nothing to compare to. If your looks different, could you guys post your pics for me? THANX!

The spring should be pulling it back tight into the holder....

Mine was the same way also. Since I never use the plug, I removed the spring & cord, then tucked it in front of the amplifier where it's out of the way.

Has everyone seen this H-D TechTip?

SE,
Did you ever get any more feedback from the dealer?

Not really, I just took matters into my own hands. I'm working on a real for, but for now I have the bracket removed and the plug attached to the speaker trim ring.

I think this is something of a major issue!  The MoFoMoCo must be aware that it's a big problem and have done absolutely zero to fix it!  The way mine was fitted, the cable was trapped solid between the audio amp and the chrome tube of the tourpak support rail - wouldn't move at all, so the spring was doing nothing. Couple that to the fact that there's no way my wife can reach it when she's sitting on the bike, and the way you just know it's going to catch you unawares and scratch the pannier lid sooner or later, and I think it's scandalous!

I just spent a couple of hours trying to see if I could improve things, but it's hard to see how the cable and spring really should be routed. at the moment I have the spring coming over the top of the amp to the front, and attaching there (because I can't see any other way to route the spring!) but the cable is at an even worse angle for the bracket than normal.

Anyone come up with a neat, permanent fix that is easy to use and doesn't scratch the seat or the pannier?

I think that Harley should provide a connector similar to the headset connector on the fuel tank and they should install that connector in the left passenger speaker.  The company won't doing anything so if anyone knows how to get that connector I am ready to try the install.

I talked to the dealer about this on Saturday. They agree that it is a useless setup. They are supposed to contact the MoCo and get back with me. I aint holding my breath but I am pissed about the scratched lid and will be following up on it.

Yes, stay on the case. Paint being scratched by this dreadful, disgraceful design is their fault, not yours, and they should fix it!

Well I have the Parts Book for the '06 SE, and the closest you can get is the complete console harness part number 77121-98 (connector not listed seperate).  I'm saying console harness because that would give you a setup for surface mounting like the console connector is.  The passenger setup comes with exactly what you have there now and would be harder to adapt.  You'd probably also need 76266-98, the weather cap assembly.

If anybody can think of anything else let me know, the book is handy....
