TTS - Looking for Advice (roughness)
« on: May 14, 2010, 03:11:38 PM »

2010 FLSTSE ConV - Stock w/ Fullsac Prototype 1.75 Baffles.

There is a faint roughness to the motor when opening up the throttle. Speed, RPM's or gearing doesn't matter. Mainly zipping around at 2400 to 2700 then opening up the throttle, throttle position doesn't matter either. When it starts to pull there's a hint of roughness that will smooth out when equaling out or decelerating.

Map has been tweaked several times but the bike isn't as smooth in acceleration as I would like. I'm using a modified PN176-002-BI. Set the spark tables back to TTS original, accel enrichment and the Adaptive Knock Retard with no effect. AFR's in closed loop are 14.6 through 3500 from 20 to 80 kPa. VE's are in great shape. CLB at 684 across the board-both cylinders. Looking for anyone that can help me smooth out the acceleration, point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Have you had the bike on the dyno to sync. the VE tables?

Thanks for the reply Doc...

No sir. I do have 9 Vtune data runs on her though. Cruising and surrounding areas all white after the 5th run. The last two included two hwy speeds/high RPM's/full pulls in 5th/6000 hits which produced a little scarlet but no heavy reds.

She runs very strong, avg oil temp 225*/ 40 MPG/ no decel pop or blubber just this hint of motor vibration associated with each cylinder fire during throttle pull.

Kraut Hartman is about 15 minutes from me if you think the VE's are suspect.

Sleeping on this a little more...

Could an exhaust sonic pulse effect be what I'm feeling?

Not sleeping...lol...well not right now anyway.
There are so many harmonics happening in a bike and from bike to bike things change like pipes, cams, at which make it very difficult to say this or that is your problem. It's one of those things that a guy has to feel for him self for a good diagnosis other wise we are just chacing our tail.....this is why I haven't responded...I don't have an answer for you other than a guess or BS and I don't like either of those.... :nixweiss:.

I do my best thinking when when I'm unconscious.  ???

I just couldn't believe it was the map but hoped to hear if anyone else that may have had a similar situation in the past. Working with the TTS is simply too easy and the Vtune software data just wasn't showing me any changes after nine runs. The ConV really woke up from stock and is a fast little scooter that will run cool and strong with very little mods.

Early this morning I started looking at the new style crossover pipe. There is a bracket that holds it to the frame and of course that crossover pipe is connected to each head pipe. Just for grins I cranked her up and loosened the frame bolts then tightened them back up before shutting down the motor. That little hint of acceleration vibration is gone.  :mango: :mango:

Ya never know when something stupid will shake your confidence. (pun intended)   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the replies Doc.

There you go....my point exactly....there is too many things a vibration can come from.
