Pipes, Pipes and more Pipes
« on: February 13, 2006, 05:42:13 PM »

I am nearing my break-in and am looking to let the Eagle breathe with a SE A/C and some free flowing exhaust. And there lies the problem. I don't want loud pipes. I know, if you want more power, you're going to have more noise. I have been reading threads about the Freedom package and it looks like the way to go. Some one tell me, how loud are your Freedom pipes ?
Has anyone experimented with the factory pipes? My dealer won't even drill baffles any more. Give me some ideas here.

Rineharts with the 2' baffles if you want true duals........ [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The 2' baffle will increase your back pressure(a very good thing for a 103) as well as quieting things down a bit.

I had Rineharts and thought they were too loud, so I switched to the so called Quiet baffles, and if there was a difference, it wasn't much.
There are starting to be more and more quiet pipes on the market.  S&S, Sampson stealth, HD touring, Kerker, Supertrapp, etc. I havent heard one bad comment about the new S&S ovals concerning sound, but the looks is questionable to me. Usually the best thing is to hang around a bunch of bikes and listen for one you like. I haven't done it or heard one either, but I have always wanted to try a stock set of mufflers w/true duals, which would make them louder. Certainly wouldn't be the best performer, but might sound good for long trips and tune listening.

I'm with GC_super that the Rineharts even with the quiet baffles are too loud for my tastes.

I've ordered the rinehart duals with the quiet baffles, race tuner, and hi flow air cleaner. I'll let you know the results when they're done this week. Getting it fully dyno'd.

I do want to see those Dyno figures when you're done. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I am going to do before and after runs when I decide what pipes I'm going to use so I can see the difference on paper.

I really like the sound and style of the V&H Ovals, had them on the bike. I got a wild hair up my butt and went with the Rinehart tru duals alot louder, I know that the Freedom exhaust is just as loud, I agree with Cigarmike we here in Calif do need as loud a pipe as possible. It's not just women born with only one ear & the other a cell phone. Why do you think they call it the land of the breakfast cereal ,( We have the fruit, nuts and the flakes too ! )   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

S&S makes some nice slip-ons for touring models. I've never heard them but they're suppose to offer good power with low decibals.

I'm pretty close in choosing either the SE Touring pipes or the V&H Ovals. I had the SE pipes on my last Ultra and liked them a lot. But I do want to hear some bikes with the V&H Ovals. Those are some nice looking pipes. I am going to use the V&H true dual headers, just not committed on the pipes yet. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Baotman, I meant to ask. You said I could pull the baffles out of my mufflers. Have you done this? [smiley=confused5.gif] I don't see any way to remove the baffles.

electraglidecycle   My neighbor was of the same frame of mind as you. He bought a set of Screamin Eagle Slip ons. Not the ones that come without end caps that you buy the end caps for, but the ones that come slash cut either up or down (sorry don't have the catalogue in front of me) They are somewhat louder but not as loud as any aftermarket mufs I've ever heard. He added a stage 1 breather and chipped the ECM and is happy with the performance.  ;)

Why hasn't anyone on this site tried Rush Mufflers?  It seems like there is no originality.  I'm tired of hearing of "true duals".  If all the people with the next thing to straight pipes keep sticking these things on their bikes, why don't you get rid of the fairing- you can't hear the high dollar stereo anyway- turn it into a hard tail, and go for the maximum horsepower at about 7000 rpm?  PS is the windshield too tall on your Ultra?-  Maybe notches could be filed along the edge with a bastard file! [smiley=nervous.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=banana.gif]-Just wondering.

Do you have any Dyno #'s to post?

Are they slipon's or complete system's?

 Who makes them?

 Etc,etc,etc.......

Is anyone using the Freedom pipes with a Race Tuner?  If so, is there a MAP for it or did you have someone create one.
I am inclined to go with 2:1's as I had great results with the White Brother's E-series on my Heritage.  Freedom claims they get similar improved TQ results with their 2:2 as you would with a 2:1.

Dealer suggests either the HD 2:1 (made by V&H) or V & H Pro-pipe (looks better than HD's)

I just had a RT installed to correct my Cold Start issue and would not need the PC III package Freedom offers.
