18" Wheels
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:43:48 PM »

Installed these on a customers bike today, Though i'd share pics since people have asked about the look.

The front is a 130/70-18 and the rear is a 140/70-18

Thanks Jim.  Going to an 18 (or something) up front is something I've thought about just because we can see so little of the front wheel.  I'd probably not screw with it on the rear though.  If you gotta bend down that far to get a good look at it makes it harder to justify the cost.

Did you get a chance to test ride your work here before returning to the customer?  If so, notice any handling difference?

Yeah, 'er 'uh, hd-dude,
Looks good, Man!  Guess I'm old school.  A Dresser just ain't a Dresser, without 80-spoke wheels.  On the front, anyway.  But that's just me.  Black Ultra's look good, anytime!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Later--HUBBARD

Great looking rims and tires Dude.  Even if you can't see too much of them they do make the bike stand out.  Looks like this guy is investing heavy like the rest of us on this site[smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

/me thinks you holding back something however....

Yes I rode it a bit. Was pretty cautious during the ride because there was very little front brakes until the new polished rotors get broken in. The bike sits a bit higher with the 18's, about 3/4", overall I really did not notice much handling difference. The Avon tires are a much softer compound so I imagine that the cornering would be better. I have ridden baggers with the 18" rear and a 21" front and don't like the way they feel. The 18" on front and rear is the way to go! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
I am thinking about 18's on mine but I thought they would ride rougher with the low profile side walls. Any one have an opinion?

Jim,
I put the 18's rear and the 21 in front with Avon's and really can't tell any difference, it does seem to corner alittle bit better and maybe easier to control. I'll try and get some Pic's of it. Sure can see the front rim better. ( Two each there own! )
