All right, it's getting close. I plan to start in Minnesota and ride every state West of the Mississippi River on one ride, beginning the end of June.  I thought I would ask for all of your help on this possible route. Looking for any bad roads, as well as fun things to see. And anything I will need to watch out for.  I have two weeks to do 6000 miles. I welcome alternate highways, as I don't really have a set route yet. I'm trying to stay off the Interstate and will be staying in small towns, in motels. Hope to get to meet a lot of nice people on the trip. I will be traveling alone.  Thanks in advance to those of you that know these areas.

Hwy 71-zigzagging down to Lousiana
Hwy 82 and 287 across Northern Texas
Hwy 64 across New Mexico
Monument Valley to Mexican Hat
Hwy 95 north throught Utah to Salina
Hwy 50 to Reno
Over the Interstate 5 at Redding California
Up Interstate 5 to Eugene Or
West through Oregon to Mount Vernon, North to Walla Walla Wa and Lewiston ID
Hwy 12 Lolo Pass to Missoula MT
Interstate 90 to Livingston MT
Through the North end of Yellowstone and Beartooth Pass
Home through N & S Dakota

Hwy 50 to Reno

For that leg, might I suggest Hwy 395 outta Reno to north on Hwy 89, skip Redding (you won't miss much unless you have a reason to go there) and head for Weed instead. Alternatively, you could just head to Eugene OR via this route -- http://tinyurl.com/2cym32q. This'll keep you off the highways.

Or, if you're not bent on going through Redding (like if you wanted to stop at their dealership) take 395 north out of Reno to Susanville.

In Susanville take Ca 36 west to Ca 44 north to Ca 89 north to I-5.  This would bring you very near both Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta (both volcanos).  You'd be traveling some of the roads that we traveled last weekend in this thread......    http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=50136.0

They're great roads made for riding.

If you wanted to go to Redding anyway, follow the route I indicate above but stay on Ca 44 all the way into Redding.

Clarkston/Lewiston to LoLo onto Missoula is kick ass, you'll like it.  Beartooth Pass, just keep your rain gear handy and watch out for the cagers who are more into sight seeing WHILE driving on the extreme but wonderful route.  On the Beartooth I'm sure you know the elevation is up there, over 10K but the surrounding area is also high so the weather is ever changing and so are the temps...... mostly the temps!   Enjoy

Thanks for the links. I'm changing my route. I don't need to go to Eugene. A friend from Boise said to get into the moutains instead of going North on 395 to Walla Walla and suggested going further West.  I think I can head North toward Klamath Falls to Bend with a little side trip around the Volcano area. Hopefully that gets me into enough mountains. Good info and great pics. Thanks

If you are taking hwy 139 to Klamath Falls, a side trip around Crater Lake would definitely be worth the time.

You could leave Mt. Shasta and head north on I-5 (beautiful ride for an interstate) up to Rogue River, Oregon area and then cut over to Crater Lake.

Really not much to see around Klamath Falls or Bend, Ore. in my opinion (high desert).  I'd suggest staying on the west side of Oregon (I-5 or even further west), in the mountains.....much more beautiful. :2vrolijk_21:

Let me know your planned route through Louisiana.  You said you were looking for some bad roads.....welcome to Louisiana.  I think that we can accomodate you, however, we do have a few roads though the state that have recently been upgraded.  That SERG Silver/Black will be the fastest color for Louisiana.

Sorry, Louisiana will get only about 30 miles in the extreme NW corner. Fast in--fast out and on through Texas. Just enough to say I was legally in the state.  Not that I wouldn't like to spend more time exploring, but I need to keep on the move.

...or Reno on the 395 go South to the Senora Pass (108) to the California Gold Country and then to the 5. In Sonora stay at the Gunn House, they are great folks and biker friendly. The Harley dealer in Jametown down the way is worth stopping at. We had a good snow pack this winter and the pass will display many water falls with white water everywhere. Its over ten thousand feet but very pleasant this time of year.

...or 395 to the Tioga Pass (120) and visit Yosemite then the Gold Country, but lots of tourest traffic.

Hi all, just returned last night. Made all the states and 6200 miles, two weeks and the most beautiful scenery ever. 400-650 miles/day, some only 300.  I'll sort the pics a post some later this weekend in the "rides" area.
