Tie Down Points for Trailering 2010 CVO Black Ultra
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:05:03 PM »

Just got my new CVO Black Ultra a few weeks ago, and need to find the best and safest way to tie down the front end while trailering.  There is a cosmetic "filler" piece on the front end that makes it difficult to get a good tie down spot, and the fairing will not allow a line to the handlebars.  The aforementioned "filler" piece also wraps around the side of the down tubes, so I can't add one of the "hook points" to the side of the down tubes as is possible on a standard Ultra.

Anybody know what I am talking about and have a good tie down solution for the front end of my CVO Ultra?  Someone has suggested a "Condor" so that the front end will be stable without tying down.  Would appreciate responses from anybody that can provide tried and tested solutions for this.  Thanks.

Using a wheel chock I simply used tie downs from the front fork forward to the frame of the trailer. Also used tie downs to the left and rigfht sides of the rear tire to prevent the bike from moving left and right on road bumps.

I use condors but i still strap from the disk brake anchors on the forks forward and through the rear for left and right movement (make a wrap on the tire and secure each end). You only need one strap then on the back. Never had a problem. I forgot to disable my buddies alarm and it chirped the whole way.

Front, facing forward down: At the forks where the brake is mounted.
Rear, facing backward down: Saddlebag guards.
I use four tie down loops, and the actual ratchet tie down hook into those.
For safety use a chock for the front wheel.

Definitely go with the condor.  It makes loading the bikes onto the trailer a breeze and prevents any chock jumping.

Kind of scary that your bike is held in place with only two 1/4" bolts holding it on each side

I've trailered my bike twice ,( 1500 mile round trip) with those tie downs installed, then took them off to install them on another bike for a freind and the bolts showed no signs of stetching or deformation.
i trust them completely .

my 2 cents if you ever have to trailor.  I always use a 4x4 peice of wood and a couple other peices under the frame of the bike.  Kinda have to rock it back and forth or have someone there to lift it up a bit so they are against it while resting.  That way when you ratchet down the bike the frame is being locked to the trailor and you don't have all the pressure on your suspension.  Plus there is no moving any way when it is tied down that way.  Just how i do it.  I don't like my stuff bouncing around back there.

I have used tie downs for years without any real negative outcome but if I was planning on trailering my bike I would invest in this.http://www.framelock.com/Pricing/

I saw them before, that is a good setup. Takes the worry out of any roads you trailored on.

Use the Condor up front, tie downs for the rear and forget about it !!  FYI... Also use the Condor in my "drive in garage" inside my garage:  pull in, shut her down, walk away!

Use a WheelDock.  Usually in my garage to use as a parking stand.  Front tie downs.

Where are you keeping your bags while the rear straps are in place?
