2010 CVO 110 issues?
« on: June 17, 2010, 09:59:16 AM »

I know the older CVO 110s have had issues but who is having problems now?

My 2010 SEUC after 7.5K is doing a few things that just don't seem right.  The oil pressure (dash gauge) has dropped to the mark just above 0* several times at idle after the engine has reached operating temps.  It stumbles/stalls off idle sometimes and it feels like it has been getting much hotter than normal.  It lost power a few times where I had to just pull in the clutch and crank on the throttle until the engine revved back up.  Oil level is perfect and it has been serviced by the dealer with (I know, I know) syn3 oil.

I would suggest you document your problems with backup work orders from your dealer detailing your issues.
If this bike was doing this since new, you have problems.
If it's something just starting, your dealer needs to have a chance to fix them before you take the next step.
Either way, this is not "normal" behavior for the new bikes.

Are you certain the ECM is set accurate? This could be a tuning issue. Just sayin'

Ride safely,

2900 miles on my 2010 SEUC and I have excessive Piston Slap. Scheduling bike in so they can tear motor down to determine cause of the loud clacking noise. Possible Motor Change.

Hello all,

SECU was bought on Saturday,  I am already experiencing overheating, one cylinder operations at idle (normal because of overheating) .

From stop, I have to rev it up to get both cylinders working before taking off to prevent stall.

I am taking it into the shop today.  I called Harley and asked what the normal operating temperature the primary cover should be.  They are investigating.

I know the Dealer's service center will tell me it is just break in heat.

Another thing that happened is,   smoke coming off (not out of) of my pipes when I turned my bike off.

Last thing I have a question on.  I have looked at other Screaming Eagles and have not seen this.

My Chrome transmission cover has a zerk fitting on top rear.  Has anyone else seen this?  If so, what is it for?

That fitting is a bleeder valve for the hydraulic clutch Joe.

The smoke coming off the pipes is probably just the oils that are on the metal burning off.  The outside surface of the heat shields can be cleaned off, but the inner surface of the shields and the actual pipes tend to have some oils on them from manufacturing and assembly.

Also this motor is new and will run hot. When it does the rear cylinder will shut down when temperatures are too hot and the engine is at idle (traffic for instance).

I am surprised that the dealer staff don't know this. The shop manual for your motorcycle will tell them exactly what the "temp" parameters are.

As a suggestion,I would not touch anything until you have at least 500-1,000 miles on it and take it in for a service. PLEASE be sure to request that ALL fluid be changed--primary, transmission and of course oil. By the way NO SYN3 in the tranny or primary. The motor company went back to their original thinking and use specific fluids for these areas now instead of SYN3 everywhere.

Regards

Jerry

Jerry, What are those specific fluids that the motor company is using instead of Syn 3?

I had mine dyno tuned at another dealer just after my local dealer did the 5K tuneup and found the air filter clogged slam up.  Don't they clean/replace the SE air filter when then do the service?  These guys sure didn't!

They should, but what kind of riding are you doing to clog up an air filter in as little as 5,000 miles? :shocked2:

No dirt roads, mainly back and forth to work.  I think it must have been all the pollen.

Just talked to the tuner and set up an appointment the 29th.  He wants to get it back on the dyno and see what's going on.   I'm thinking most of my problem was the 5K+ altitude and slow speed up the curvy mountain roads causing the engine to heat up and cause low oil pressure.  He thinks the stumble is just in the tune.  After riding the last few days all I noticed was the stumble/stalling issue.
