Solo seat bolt?
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:22:26 PM »

For you guys that have a solo seat, mine is on the way. So what do you use to cover the threaded nut on the fender.

I bought that thumbscrew, but haven't used it yet- figure it would make it even easier to steal the seat.

Wish there was some type of nice looking screw with some unique head that would make it difficult for thieves with a screwdriver to take.

The threaded insert pops out easily.  Then you've got a smooth fender.  Could cover the hole with any stick on emblem you like the looks of.  There have been some attractive fender emblems used over the years.  For something even cheaper and easier check the Dyna on a dealer floor.  A lot of them will have a little back push in plug with the bar and shield logo in in it in the holes in their fenders.

I use the same thing HD used on the 2003 Softail Springer.  It's basically a small, chrome-plated plastic, smooth button head screw and costs about $2--far less conspicuous than HD's knurled piece posted in a previous thread.  If I can locate the part no. I'll post it; otherwise, just check with an HD store's parts book for that bike.

Harley has two solutions if you don't want to use the bolt listed above.  They have a chrome domed plug that they sell for the Roadking (in fact it comes on the underside of the stock seat for taking off the passenger portion).  If you want to take the nut out, Harley has a flat black plug with the bar and shield on it that they sell for Police Motor fenders to plug the unused hole in the fender.  Just a thought!

Harley actually makes a cover which screws right into the nut plate.  I don't have the part number, (threw the plastic packaging away) but here's photo:

Are you sure it's an HD part? I'm unable to locate it in the catalog or online  :nixweiss:

Hey Jeff - it is an HD part. I bought one not long ago but can't find the receipt. Maybe someone will chime in with a part number.

I'll try to get the part number for you.  Mine was a 'special order' in the sense they were out of stock at the time so the dealership should have a record of the part they ordered for me (pre-paid, etc.)
