I am pretty sure he did not like letting all those workers go.
However a company, be it Harley or any other company has to make a profit, and has to make it's share holders happy. If Production is down a lot due to people not buying bikes, you can not continue to pay people to do nothing. The company looses money.
That is part of what hurt the American car companies, Union forcing them to keep several thousand employees on the payroll even when they were not needed and just sitting there collecting a check.
I hope this man, earns his money and helps keep Harley going another 100 years. I hope he figures out how to get younger customers into buying a harley. I hope with lower production he can put more focus on quality.
