Inaccurate speedometer
« on: June 21, 2010, 08:20:54 PM »

At what point will the speedometer acknowledge / identify a problem, via diagnostics or something else ?  Is an indicated 5 mph too fast acceptable ?  Dealer says no big deal -- I say I want an accurate read out!!  Comments?  (My GPS indicates 5 - 7 mph slower than the bike)

Most all do, unless you get something like a Mastertune to fix it.

I have found that all of my Harley speedos read 3% to 5% high. I travel with a Garmin GPS's on all of my bikes and use that as the correct speedo reading. Can't get more acurate than that.

My SERG is almost dead on @ freeway speeds. But it's the first one that's ever been close to right. I never considered a speedometer to be an accurate gauge anyway, just a "pretty close" guide. Still better than the gas gauge.

I've never had an accurate speedo on any motorcycle I've owned. I hardly pay attention to 'em anyway.
