I just picked up a 2010 SE Ultra with very low mileage.  It has had Vance and Hines slip ons added and a heavy breather but no tuning.

So, I have been on a quest for getting my exhaust and tuning dialed in for the last week.  I called Roeders racing which is somewhat near me and they said I would benefit from a tune even with the stock pipe.  I dont think I told them the year of my bike and when I got there they noted the catalytic converter  and that it would need to be removed.  Considering the costs for labor to mod my pipe, I thought it might be better to go with a different pipe since I planned to eventually anyway.  I wasn't prepared to decide on a pipe that quick so I went back home.  

I talked to Doc and he told me that just  removing the cat on the 2010 is not a good idea because with the new O2 sensor positions there will be crosstalk between the two and it will be hard to get a good tune on the individual cylinders.  I think I said that right...  


After some consideration I decided to go with the Vance and Hines Power dual.  I wanted the Fuel Moto SS pipe but they are back ordered 10 weeks!! I got on the list so I may still get it later because I really like the stock look and the Jackpot pipe maintains that.  

I have the Vance and Hines basic slip ons with 2.25 in baffles and they sound pretty good to me, but may be a bit loud for long trip.  They sound deep with a little ching on the top of the sound.  Doc told me I would get better throttle response with 2 in baffles but they are not offered from VH for this slip on.


I am taking it to a tuner he recommends that is somewhat near me to be dialed in next Tuesday.  I am very excited to be getting this done.  Thing is if I want to change the sound in any way, or the baffle size. this is the time to do it.  I also have the stock muffs comin back to me from the previous owner but they won't be back in time to get some fullsax or something to mod them.  

Any ideas for something different muffler wise that would be cool with the power duals?  I may just leave the Basics and listen to a lot of other stuff and take my time, since I will prolly need another tune if I change them, but in the meantime, I would enjoy hearing your ideas.

I like the Bub Stealth as well as the Fule Moto carbon fiber mufflers.

I have Rinehart that have been quieted down (relative term) and wold not change them.

Diamondback, how did you quiet the Rineharts and what size are they 3.5" or 4"? Thanks

Thanks for the responses...  Anybody heard both the Vance and Hines Basic Slipons and the Hi Output slip ons that are able to compare?

Doesn't look stock, but I like the D&D Fatcat with ghost pipe. It is alittle loud for some people though.

If he thinks the V&H Basics are loud, he will be blown off of the bike with the D&D setup with ghost pipe.

I don't think the basics are excessively loud, I am just looking for maybe a different sound and also Doc told me that 2 in baffle would be better and the Basics are 2.25 in. 

I heard the Fatcat with Performance baffles and while it sounded awesome in its own way, it was freakin unbelievably LOUD and it didnt sound like a Harley to me, more like an airplane.   I have heard a couple 2/1 systems and rode a SE Road king with Rinehart 2/1 and I think a 2/1 system sounds one dimensional to me.  The Fatcat sounded very midrangy to me, not deep.  I almost went that route for the performance, but I dont think I can get comfortable with such a different sound.   I see a lot of them for sale from people who dont dig the sound after getting them.  I could end up this way in the future, but we'll see.  I would like to hear the quiet baffle in person. Also, there is a wait for them as well...

I heard a bike Monday with 2"Baffles (RUSH Touring Chrome Series) pipes. I thought it sounded very good.
I am very happy with the way my fullsac 2" baffles sound.

Before you get all wrapped up in the exact sound of a particular pipe/muffler combo find out what cam is in the bike, that too can change the sound... a lot.

 The D&D Fatcat with the quiet baffle is NOT loud at all. Had them on my SERK and the motor was build (high compression pistons, 625 cams, head work, HPI 55mm throttlebody and other goodies. Still very quiet, could talk to the backseat rider without shouting. D&D has 4 different baffles, quiet standard, standard,quiet performance and the performance baffle. Each one has a very different sound. I liked the quiet standard the best for that deep rumble. It will give you the deep sound that all Harley's should have , IMHO. The standard and the performance baffle have a high tinny sound not the deep rumble that I like. The quiet performance would be a little deeper but it is way too loud for me. If you want performance and like it quiet then the quiet standard baffle is what you would want in the D&D, if you were to go with the D&D. I had them and I wanted a deeper rumble this time so I when with Vance&Hines power duals with the Hi Output slip ons. The Hi Output's are what their techs recommend for the 110 motors.

How do you like the power dual/hi output setup compared to the Fatcat performance wise?  I presume you mean the techs at V+H right?    Have you ever heard the basic slip ons to compare to the hi output sound wise?

Mine are the 3.5" and I ordered the muffler packing material from Fuel Moto (looks like spaghetti) remove the baffles from the Rineharts without removing them from then bike (takes patience and time but not overly difficult) then wrapped the baffles with as much material as I could stuff.  Taped it with good old Scotch tape and forced it back into the muffler.

Quieted down considerably, lower deeper rumble but still barks.

$35.00 bucks of material and two hours of my time.

That sounds interesting.  I re-packed my 2.0" Fullsac's and replaced the stock fiberglass with a 1" ceramic blanket hoping to quite it down from the 106 db's which is the legal max in the area.  After several hours of work it dropped to 105 db's.  The only upside to the whole project was the mufflers run substantially cooler and you can touch them.

I researched the packing material and found something called Silent Sport Premium, was that it?  How big was the bag you purchased?

I let Fuel Moto decide and I could not come close to using it all.

I'm sure my db's are down at idle over 3db maybe more.

If I can get em, I think I might go with the VH Monster rounds.... 

Talked to the guy at VH and he said that the when properly tuned, basic slip ons (the ones I have now )  2.25 in strait thru baffle  3HP gain  101 dB sound level

hi output slip ons  5-6 HP, 103 dB

Monster Ovals/ Rounds  7-8 HP  94 dB

Obviously the power gains are nice, I hope they are not too quiet.

Anybody else hear these or have them?  I have done a search but there is not much info from people who have experienced them as they have not been out long and they are backordered a lot.
