Best Exhaust for stock 88" power and sound

I've got another brother that is looking for input for his exhaust change for a bone stock 88" 04 Heritage Softail
What's do you have and how does it sound??

My softail motor is not stock, but I went the the White Bros. E series 2 into 1 and I really like it.  You can adjust the number of discs for sound and performance, so incase your buddy changes something with the motor down the line, the pipe can be adjusted for it.-Steve [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I think Craig is more leaning to staggered than a 2-1 system exhaust, He seems to be leaning towards the Rinehart's with the 2 1/2" heat shields or the Chambermaids.

At the risk of being considered a wise ass, once you change the exhaust you'll need to modify the intake and re-chip the ECM. At that point your engine is no longer    "STOCK"  It is modified and therein lies the method to my madness. The MoCo downloads are all calibrated on using Screamin Eagle exhaust and breather. Soooooooooo if you use some other exhaust or breather or combination thereof, you need to go to a SERT or a PC to reprogram your ECM so the answer to your question then becomes more complicated in that the power curve you program into the PC is a derivative of what your intake and exahust are doing and as far as I know you cannot program a SERT without running the bike on a dyno. Confused ?  So are most people which is why you are likely to get 50 different recommendations to answer your original question. I'm not going to suggest anything as what I've found is that a lot of people pick an exhaust they like the sound and looks of and then go about justifying it to their friends as the best you can get. That may sound cynical, but IMHO it's the truth.

Spiderman,
He's got a carb 88 not an injected model. He one of those riders that "bar hops" and not a rider that we think of as a rider. No long days in the saddle, so torque and power aren't as large a factor as sound is.

If he wants teh rineharts he will have to order them special witht he 2 1/2" baffles .. they come stock now with the 2 1/4"

In regards to the White Brothers E - pipe its not longer made or sold unless you can find one someone still has in a warehouse.   Seems a small court battle fixed that.   I dunno someone else claimed they had the disc technology and won.

As far as an alternative to the Rineharts to give him choices ... he can also check out the Bassani with the longer baffle.

Freedom Cycles has thier "power package" for softails as well. I put setup on a stock 88" Softail and it ran really well. The one I did was injected but i'm sure they could set you up anyway.

That's a damn good thought, I'll toss that by him in the AM. See what he maybe wanting or willing to do. Mostly sounded to me that he wanted to off his stock fishtails and crossover, but you never know. We'll see.

My 03 Night Train is carbed. I went with Hooker headers. They look like drag pipes but are step tuned and ceramic coated on the inside so you keep the torque and gain horse power. He will need to re-jet the carb, but then again he will have to do that with any freer flowing pipes so the bike wont run to lean.

Welcome to the site, I've got several buddies with the Hookers. Loud, is the first thing that comes to mind. I like them myself, clean lines, nice bark. Right to re-jetting on any freer flowing system, which will be done. The Hookers are a bit to loud for his taste.

I had a 2000 NIght Train. I put V&H Long Shots on it. Rejetted of course. The Long Shots put the end of the exhaust further away from my ears and it had a great sound and improved performance. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

 Do you any of that metallic chatter from your longshots? My bothers Heritage and some others all seem to have it, but they all are the staggered style. Real nice sound, plenty of power threw the bands. Craig did have the longs for a choice.
