I've run about 15 sets of M880s, and just mounted a set of M880 Radial 18 inchers to my SERG.   If the ones you are mounting are radials, I'll be very glad to hear your impressions

Yes, They are radials, I have run Metz Radials before on my 04 Low Rider i had before the 07 SERK i have now and loved them, Hope they work as well on the heavier bike and i think they will. Only reason i haven't run them before now is Metz just came out with the odd ball size in a Radial thats on the SERK's. I rode about 20 miles from the tire shop to the house today, all interstate (I-40) and they feel a lot better than the H-D Screamin Eagle Tires, If it don't rain tomorrow we are riding on some twisties, I'll let you know how they do.  :2vrolijk_21:

These are my first radial Metzelers.  While they are still the quickest handling tire I have ridden, these radials seem to wander a bit more.

How much air pressure are you running? With these tires you need to run more than say the ones that came on the bike.  I'm on a Road King so your bike is heavier than mine, Riding 2 up i run 42 in the rear, 38 in the front. I just put these on Saturday, We rode both interstate and back roads and i have no complaints at all. :2vrolijk_21:

I run all my tires at max sidewall (40/40) in this case.  I think these are simply softer than Bias Pliy tires.

If you change to Metzler's, you need to look at the Metzler recommended air pressures and not just automatically stick with the ones from Harley in your owner manual.  Many Metzler's require higher air pressure due to the differences in the actual contruction of their tires versus the Dunlops.  Note the differences on the attachment, the Alpha designated sizes tend to use the stock pressures, and the Metric designated sizes use higher pressures as noted.

Automatically using the maximum inflation numbers on the sidewalls as your normal inflation pressure isn't necessarily a great idea either.  Those numbers represent the maximum safe pressure, not the optimum normal pressure.

That's true!  I used to run 52 in the rear of my Venture based on that information...

Thanks for the reminder.

Alphanumeric is just a different system for naming tire sizes.  There are basically 3 systems, the old inch system, alphanumeric, and metric (180/55R18 78H for instance). You still need to look at the entire tire designation to determine bias versus radial.  For instance, a tire designation might be MU85B16  77H .  The M is for motorcycle, width is U, the aspect ratio is 85%, the B signifies belted bias construction, the 16 is the rim diameter in inches, the 77 is the load rating, and the H is the speed rating.  A radial would have an R after the aspect ratio instead of a B.

The alphanumeric system is being phased out, and the metric system is used by most companies.  In fact, I don't believe there is an alpha designated tire wider than a 140.

Metric    Alpha
90     =     H
100   =     J
110   =     L
120   =  N,P, or R
130   =     T
140   =     U

So what's the verdict on radial vs. bias ply?  Getting ready to buy tires for 09 SERG.
