J&M Amp Install help....Update Problem solved...
« on: July 21, 2010, 11:30:49 PM »

I just installed my J&M amp, went over the wiring triple checked to make sure I installed it exactly as per the instructions, turned on the system, had sound for 3 seconds and nothing. I have power at both the amp and stereo, no sound,????? Help any ideas? I am very mechanically inclined and am very sure I do not have any shorts or crossed wires. I did unplug the stereo connector when I installed the amp, do you think the stereo has an anti theft feature and when I unplugged it it now has to be reset?
Update...
Connected the Stereo to the speakers and I have sound, therefore the problem is in the new amp, I have power to the amp as the green indicator light is lit, therefore there must be a problem in the amp, I noticed a small square button that switches from RCA jacks to direct input (connector plug and that is in the right position.... still scratching my head.
Going to Call the DR tomorrow

Sounds to me to be a Amp problem,............. I installed my own. Was scared to death, I'm not very good working with anything on the bike but I got it done. Just followed the instructions. Hopefully the DR will hook you up with a replacement........................................................................Fuzz

Discussed this with the J&M factory tech, he confirmed everything is pointing to the amp. I will be seeing them in Sturgis. Thanks for the input .

Hawk may have had a resistance issue. The J&M amp puts out two ohms the speakers as I recall. Don't think the stock speakers will handle that.

Met with the J&M Technition in Sturgis, found the problem was a bad ground connection. The instructions tell you to install the ground wire to a certain screw under the seat, well he tried a different ground connection and it works.  :2vrolijk_21:

You will like the sound, I have noticed the CD player sounds better than the IPod.

I installed my J&M 7.25 speakers and amp last weekend.  I love it, but have noticed there is a noticable difference between the CD player to the radio and Ipod.  I did expect that though, but I don't know the technical reason why it is.  Even with the difference from the radio to the CD player it's still way better than stock.  Well worth the money in my opinion and I would recommend it.
