As I said without the new kit wiring diagram I do not know if they are using the Bluetooth interrupt circuit built into the radio. To me it would be the logical thing to do.
But as I said, the BT interrupt kills ALL other audio - first priority, and it doesn't quiet it, it kills it completely. That's at odds with your saying that this harness only quiets the audio, no?
Having said that I can see a few problems attaching more then one device to this circuit, it would be like connecting two amplifiers to the same speakers.
Surmountable though, yes? i.e. when the phone circuit was live, block input from the GPS? (And don't forget the spare inputs on the BT harness). I've ordered one, so we'll see what's what once it arrives. I'll let you know, if you are interested?
The Harley Bluetooth device was a good idea. A bit on the expensive side but it integrated seamlessly as it should. They would do well to bring it back with a tie in for the GPS and the ability to update the program or data file so that they can keep up with current phones. I think the inability of the Bluetooth module to connect to new phones may have been the reason they stopped making them at least that is one possible reason.
Not just a good idea, a BRILLIANT idea. Integrates seamlessly as you say. And it does pair with new phones (I had to buy a new phone late last year, and it pairs happily with that. It pairs with iPhones too. It is choosy about what older phones it pairs with, but new ones all seem fine. It pairs with most, not just what was on their compatibility list.
The Kennedy unit does a good job but only works for the headset not the bike’s speakers. Lots of people ride without a helmet and use a throat mic and the bikes speakers; I am not one as I like my head. This new kit looks like it will interrupt the radio’s output even if you are listening via the speakers, some will like that.
Not something I worry about - helmets are the law in just about the whole world, except some US States. Also, at any speed, trying to listen via speakers is pretty useless, particularly for things you MUST hear clearly, like route instructions. If you turn the speakers up loud enough to hear, they start to trip the vox. The prohibitive thing with the Kennedy unit is the cost - it's ridiculous. The vast majority would have no problem with the instructions being headset only.
My prototype does interrupt all audio outputs whether it was from the radio or the GPS whenever a turn direction signal is present.
Sounds great if the cost can be kept reasonable.
It works on my test bench and will work on the bike. But it is a complex circuit to build one at a time and I think the only way to make it cost effective would be to have it manufactured in China. I may finish it up and that only requires me to put it in a case or container and install it on my bike though. I can’t afford to have them made. The old saying “it takes money to make money” is true.
Care to give me a price for making one for me? Happy to case it myself, if that helps.....
