XM reception - WTF
« on: July 29, 2010, 04:59:56 PM »

XM has never been perfect in the cuse but mine has gotten so bad that it is hardly usable.  I am on a road trip and have tried it on interstate highways with no trees within a few hundered feet on either side.  It may be OK (even strong) for a period but it does not last long.  It seems it is 'loading' more than it is playing.

Has XM done something to cause this?  Anyone else noticed a change is reception?

Ultrafxr, I have noticed that on my SEUC when its not in the shop and it seems like XM is the one that is causing the problem. I just haven't got enough patients to call them and talk to someone oversea's. I have problems with the Blue's channel more than any other station.

Thanks DB.  It sure seems to me that something has changed at XM - and not for the better.  At this rate it is useless!

While mine isn't quite that bad yet, I have thought that it has been occuring a little more frequently this past year or so.

I mainly listen to Bluesville ch. 74 so I can't say if one channel is any better or worse than another.  Seems like it's been since they merged with Sirrus. :nixweiss:

Willies Place, ch 13.  Always perfect!

I would pull the outer fairing and see how the antenna is positioned, I was so frustrated with mine from the factory that I pulled it out and put it on top of my leather dash pad, small dab of hot glue & it has been there for 4 years.  I didn't think it was the same radio once I moved the antenna.  It works flawless outside the fairing.

I moved the antenna to the top of the left side speaker, that way it is still inside the faring where it is protected, works great.  Used velco to secure it to the speaker, left side as you are sitting on the bike.

mostly ch 124, 71, 49, 46  - No problem unless there is obstruction nearby.  Already considering different antenna (see other threads in here) -- Interested in just repositioning the existing one like you guys -- seems like an easy fix!

Can I do this myself, or do I need to take it to the stealer?

This works the best.  Not pretty, but the best.

AND, if I relocate the existing antenna, what about the rain -- can it get wet??

Rain/weather has not been an issue.  Mounted outside the fairing.  Never tried under the fairing.  Always has given me excellent reception.

I now use either my I-Pod or my I-Phone on Pandora which is just as good and my XM money buys more songs on I -Tunes.

09SEUC mine seems pretty spotty, I thought it was due to all the trees and mountains, it seems like weather conditions affect it also. I may move ant. to top of speaker like that other post. I like that idea, still protected.

You can see mine on the link posted above.  No weather issues and the reception is absolutely perfect.  I never thought I would be able to listen to the XM in my garage, but now it is clear with 3 bars!  Of course if you think its ugly, then you'll have to accept poor reception as the trade-off.
