New iPhone/iPod interface question
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:15:07 PM »

I play streaming Internet music through my iPhone (Pandora and Rhapsody). Do you think they'll play through the HD iPod interface?  Works in my car although only volume controls work with these music services.  I like getting the iPhone out of the elements. I don't use iTunes that much. If the new HD interface wouldn't connect the live stream, I'm not interested. It oughtta work. They're just another  form of audio out.  Hand controls likely won't work except volume but that's ok.

Thoughts?  Thanks.

The kit allows you to interact with the ITunes part of your IPhone. I don't think you want to spend the money on this kit since you are using streaming audio. You can just plug the IPhone into your Aux input port on the front of the radio. The volume control will work just fine.

RPR50,

The HD solution is a pricey one if you're only going to be streaming music from Pandora, etc.  I hate (assume you do too) using the front AUX port though and having the wires all over the place.  You might want to investigate a radio modification where they can install a rear-mounted ipod cable for $105.00 or a rear-mounted AUX port for $65.00.

Check out  http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/additional-services.html

I imagine you will have to add for freight in both directions.

Iron Cross does great work....however there is one thing to consider...if the streaming works then you are fine with just tossing the phone in your bags, but if you ever decide to use Itunes you have no control over the playlists, songs, etc. with the Iron Cross cable. Using the Harley module, everything is controlled through the factory handlebar controls so once you connect it, there is no need to touch the phone.

$400 for the HD Boom Audio Ipod interface seems a bit pricey considering some of the alternatives .... no???   :nixweiss:

Don't forget the additional (possible) nightmare of getting the handlebar controls to work.

Rick (09S/E roadglide) has already done so with very good success and no problems that I know of. Rick???? Inquiring minds want to know.  :nixweiss: If that's the case I'd be hard pressed not to drop a top of line Alpine head unit in. As long as full control is available I can't see going the other way. Added bonus would also be low level audio outputs to external amplification vs the HK which requires us to use speaker level input. Better option all the way around imo.

Dude!  Making the handlebar controls work isn't a big deal.  Someone has already done all the hard work on that score.  Check out this link:

Beside that "universal" unit they also offer a Sony specific unit that is even more plug and play.  Marine units are a good idea for the head units.  Both for the potential moisture issues and because they often have better shock stabilization.

Now to decide to add the HD IPOD unit for $400 or replace with a high end Alpine with handlebar control module for over $500.....Or a less expensive Sony unit.... :confused5: :confused5:
