2009 USE4 First two years in review
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:39:35 AM »

15000 miles
first mods:  gutted cat, big sucker AC, Fullsac 1.75 cores, SSERT and dyno tune, WO575 handlebars, numerous chrome add ons,

replaced under warranty due to failure:  seat (rubbed through vinyl), heated grips, starter, and front tire.

possible problems:  Sounds like gravel in the heads when WFO?, why did my starter fail in less than two years?, do I need a new compensator?

Overall, this is the most enjoyable bike I have owned... as it should be, because it was twice the cost of any other bike I have owned.

Crystal ball:  Next bike will be water-cooled, tired of the first $1000 plus dollars spent on the new bike to work past the heat/lean problems.  If I have to replace heated grips, seat, starter, and compensator out of my pocket in the next two years my next motorcycle will most likely not be an HD.  I take care of my stuff and expect it to last longer than two years.

HOWTODOIT, I'd also like to know why your motor had to be replaced? Thanks

Roller on lifter on front cylinder shattered and basically took out the entire front cylinder.  HD did put new motor in, and I have about 13000 now on the new motor, so far no problems.

15k.  Nav module; front tire; shifter shaft (stripped); seat tears; right grip (pulled off).  All warranty. Engine makes lots of racket but runs great.

19.2k.... Heated Grips so far... only MOCO failures....   :orange:

Now self induced Misery another thing...

@ 12k, was stopped at a light (not looking in rearview) was hit from rear and drove into pickup ahead. 11k damage / down 102 days for parts.

@ 17.5k, upgraded motor to MOCO Stage 3. Local dealer (super tuner)  still unable to get tuned (4 trips)  where heat and detonation is not an issue.

On the FLSTSE, I installed the Thundermax wideband.... thinking of doing the same on the SEUC4.

16k

I had a lot of noise during start ups so they replaced the compression releases at 13k. There are new noises now and it sounds like the starter going bad but it's not often enough (yet) to rely on it happening at the dealer.

I've had both tires replaced due to cupping. The new 407 rear is cupped again at 5500 miles.

The seat was replaced when the front edge tore through.

Both front brake rotors were warped and replaced.

I've learned through these problems that some dealers are willing to go the extra mile to make things right for you. I was fortunate enough to have every issue resolved at Harley's expense.

My valve gear is getting extra noisy, and it's starting to worry me!  Was yours noisy before the problem?  What was it that broke exactly?  Do you mean at the top of the pushrod, in the rocker assembly, or at the bottom, beside the camshafts?

16.000 m, seat worn at 10.000 m (even though it was only used for long rides, otherwise the corbin is on), right grip got loose at 13.000 m (still not exchanged, MoCo did't send one over the pond). That's it.

At least I hope so  ;)

10k, mirrors pitted, seat torn, heaters gone, front tire cupped, brakes warped, some motor paint flaking, clacks like a muddaplukkah...not bad compared to some for 36 thousand dollars plus pipe and tune... ???

WTF was I thinking... :huepfenlol2
