LarrysBB, did the bear just shoot out of a side ditch into you or what?  Just wondering.  spyder

We were riding in the mountains at the time, with a guard rail on the right edge of the road. the other side of the rail sloped down and away sharply so you could not see anything on the other side of the guard rail. The bear came from under the rail right onto the road at a run. He ran directly into the right front of the motorcycle.
This pushed back the engine guard into the drivers leg (leg OK) causing a real bad owwee. Later I discovered the engine guard was up against the foot brake peddle so you couldn't depress it.  This made you think the leg was broken as you couldn't stop the bike with the foot brake. Anyway after the bike was stopped we found the dead bear, and the leg and foot started working again.
Soooo now we wait until the bike is looked at.

OK. Per the dealer, there is no frame damage, it's all cosmetic. Wow This newer frame is stronger than I would have given it credit for. :)

The bill for replacing all the "cosmetic" items (fender, Lowers, floorboard, etc) is well over $4000.

I feel as though I dodged a bullet as I did not have gap insurance..
From now, on knowing about this problem, I will always buy gap ins. I cant find anyone that sells it after the original purchase.

THE BEAR WAS YOUNG, PROBABLY THE SIZE OF A SMALL GERMAN SHEPHARD.  IT WAS ON THE INDIAN RESERVATION SO I WASN'T ALLOWED TO "KEEP" HIM.  I WILL GLADLY AND WITH HONOR ACCEPT THE FUTURE DESIGNATION OF "BEAR SLAYER"   :)

Bear Slayer, to bad you couldn't snag a tooth, claw or ear or something... it would have made a cool addition to your bike. Way better than a normal Demon Bell. IMO. Glad you are ok and that the bike can be repaired.
