Back in July myself and "up2nogood" (Jon Chandler) were emailing each other regarding trading seats on our 2009 SERG's. He was willing to even trade me his Corbin Dual Tour (heated) with backrest, for my Mustang 2 pc with backrest (even though his seat retails for about $200.00 more).

Things were getting delayed at his end, and I last spoke with him on email on July 17th, when he offered to send me his seat express mail so that I could have it for my vacation- this would have cost him $185.00, but he offered to do it and eat the cost, if I wanted him to.

I thanked him for his generous offer, but didn't feel right about him doing that, so I told him I'd email him back at the end of July after my vacation, and we'd work out the details then.

He never responded back, which I thought was unusual, as we've had numerous friendly email exchanges regarding the deal. Then on August 3rd, I received a very short email which merely said "Thank you for waiting.  We will not be needing this seat at this time". I thought that was weird, as no explanation was offered, and the email was rather blunt. I sent back an email stating so, and just got back a response from his wife tonight that Jon was killed in an accident with a drunk driver on July 24th.

I didn't ask her for anymore details for obvious reasons, but I did some Google Searches, and found out that on July 24th, Jon was riding (one of his motorcycles, as he apparenly had a few), and was sitting at a traffic light, when he was rear ended by a drunk driver and killed.

His obituary-

Jonathan Patrick Chandler, 45, of Elkmont died Saturday in Birmingham.
Jonathan was born March 14, 1965 in Pueblo, Colo. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran who served for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nikki Erjavic Chandler.
Survivors include his wife, Thersa Chandler of Elkmont; daughter, Megan Chandler of Elkmont; father, Myron Chandler of Pueblo, Colo.; two brothers, Jason Chandler of Denver, Colo., and Jim Chandler of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and numerous family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with John Bender officiating.

Sad news of course- from what little I knew of him Jon seemed like a real decent guy.

What horrible sickening tragic news...

I remember Jon's posts well.  He was so excited about his new Road Glide...seems like it was early spring or so this year...  And then his numerous posts about his impressions and customization...

My sincere condolences to his family and friends....   So sad...  God Bless...

Very Tragic, I saw the news article and told my wife to take a look as it appeared he was on a new Orange SERG. HAd no idea he was a member.  The area were he was struck is a terrible place to be on a bike, he must have felt safe so early in the morning.  The news article we saw stated that it was early morning and that the van that hit him ran a red light.

Tragic for the family and friends-deepest condolences to all. It is evident Johnathan was an exceptional man that made a difference and left this world a better place having been here. I only wish I had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sad.  I once wrote the NADA, and the ATD, to propose a Bill making it mandantory for all vehicles, including Commercial, to be equipped with a Alcohol Interlock System.  Too much resistance from the pinko-left, or so I was told.  Still think it would save lives.  Later--HUBBARD

This is very sad news.  I recall "up2nogood" / Jon Chandler posted some great things on the SERG board and seemed like a great guy.  Condolences to his family and friends. 

Always thought we riders are most vulnerable to rear end collisions.   Here in CA we are allowed to split lanes and I've always thought it a good idea to do so at any red light to avoid just that.....  RIP Jon!  Come to think of it, peace heck.  I hope you're having a great time and getting to see all your loved ones who went before you!
