Bushtec trailer for Alaska trip
« on: August 20, 2010, 02:59:22 PM »

Planning a trip thru Canada and Alaska next year. I am considering a Bushtec trailer as we plan to take our time (maybe 5-6 weeks). Would really appreciate any feedback both on the trailer and it's many options. Just want a funtional combination (well, and maybe matching paint). Feedback on the trip in general also appreciated.

I have a 2000 Turbo 2+2 that I really like.  Don't know it is back there.  LED lights, cooler, chrome tongue, etc, etc..

I would highly recommend getting chrome or powdercoated rims as the stock rims turn black easily.   If you aren't particular, that won't matter. (I believe the stock rims are magnesium or some other cheap metal finish). You need to carry at least one spare tire/wheel anyway.

I don't think you will find a bad comment from a Bushtec owner.   Highly recommended from me.

Good luck and let us know what you get.

Curious -- still deciding between the Bushtec and American Legend:  Any particular reason you are going with Bushtec?  Appreciate your comments,  Joel

Bushtec tires are hard to come by on the road, so take along a couple spare tubes just in case. Like Boatman says, you don't know its back there.  Doc

This is a giveaway price if it goes anywhere near the current bid.  Cannot beleive he doesn't have a reserve on it.  This seller is local to me.  Chit I may bid on it for a spare.

The American Legend is a nice trailer but for my $ just looks too big and bulky.  I've had two Bushtec Turbo +2s and love them.  Great workmanship, tow really easy.  Only problem is they hold way, way too much chit.  Seriously they are great.  Can't go wrong with either make imo - but I prefer Bushtec perhaps because I've gotten to know the Preston family and their customer service has been fantastic.  I know they sold out but Andrew Preston is still there and he is great to work with and really, really takes care of his customers.  :2vrolijk_21:

I bought a Bushtec Turbo 2 and love it, you dont even know it's behind you, take whatever you want with you. I bought a used one and used it for a year and then had it painted to match my bike. I have been in Alaska for a couple of weeks each of the last two years, last week of May and the 1st week of June, weather has been great and you beat all of the tourist.

Mmmmmm....my bike is black....that trailer is black....and it has a cooler I can haul my beer in! Seriously, I was looking at the Turbo two a while back but couldn't pull the trigger on that price (new). Anyone know what it cost to add the hitch to pull it to the bike?

American Legend is a good trailer, watch out for these Chinese Knock offs on ebay.

The air suspension on the Bushtec is the ticket, i just pulled mine on a 4900+ mile trip and i never felt it bounce one time. A few years back at a bike show i watched as Andrew Preston picked the rear of one up off the ground about 3 feet and dropped it, it stuck like glue. He then told us to go over to the American Legend booth and ask them to do the same thing....we knew better.
